The Space Marines are getting a lot of hate on the internet – but why? Black Blow Fly has some thoughts.

Hi everyone Black Blow Fly here to talk about one of my favorite subjects, Space Marines. Not too long ago prior to the recently new codex and supplements that have released so far Space Marines were the joke of Warhammer 40k… seriously they got no respect at all and were the butt of many bad jokes and silly memes.

The picture that launched a thousand memes

Complaints on the Internet were non stop… the general assessment was that Space Marines had terrible rules including their stratagems and were overall non-competitive. Many said outright they needed a new codex. Probably no one had a clue what was coming besides the play testers.

Now fast forward to the new codex and supplements… you’d think people would be happy in general but no that does not seem to be the case, not at all. I just have to laugh when I see certain people say they are concerned that now Space Marines are OP (overpowered). What about Knights in general, T4 Daemons that are -2 to hit, have a 5+++ FNP (Feel No Pain) plus have a 33 percent chance to regenerate more for their morale checks, Aeldari flying circus, etc.?

This is my “Whatabout” face!

People got what they asked for but seem to have so quickly forgotten – it’s truly amazing but sadly not surprising. Let’s not even mention Primaris Space Marines (wink wink)… gosh there’s still a lot of people overly concerned about the continued existence of their old Space Marine armies – most of them don’t seem to realize the new codex and supplements and have breathed some much needed life back into their precious armies. So let’s not mention Primaris Space Marines for now (wink wink).

According to the new codex: ‘Tis only a flesh wound

Another thing to consider is that the new codex and supplements are finally rewarding players for fielding mono faction armies… isn’t that a good thing? It just seems like now instead other players are more focused on wanting their factions to receive the new Space Marine treatment.

At the recent London GT, which is the second largest event in the world, four of the top ten armies were Space Marines with the much hated Aeldari flying circus taking the top two spots. So how do you feel about the new rules for Space Marines?

Do you think the Space Marine hate is justified or not? Let us know in the comments!
