Cities of Sigmar is shining a spotlight on some units we can’t wait to see on the tabletop again – the old alliances are reborn!

When Games Workshop showed off all the potential battleline units that are coming with the new Cities of Sigmar Battletome we spotted some old favorites. We’re hoping that the new battletome breathes some new life into these units and that they return to the tabletop with a vengeance.

Maybe they were just cool models that never got the love or maybe they were trusty older units that just fell out of popularity. Whatever the case – we’re excited to see what GW has done to these units.

Kharibdyss

The twisted looking Kharibdyss has always been a favorite from the Dark Aelves range. This beasty is moving to battleline according to the chart above – but it’s probably based on the Army’s General. And if that is the case then it might be time to field a few of them in our studio list! Fingers crossed that this model has gotten some other changes in the new battletome!

Demigryph Knights

These hard-hitting knights were a cool addition to the Empire line back in Fantasy but it seemed like their time on the tabletop was cut short due to the events of the End Times. We’re hoping to see a resurgence of the this unique looking cavalry option in Cities of Sigmar!

Irondrakes

The metal-clad Irondrakes are another unit that we think deserves more time on the tabletop. They have that classic old Dwarven look but are packing some serious firepower – they seem like they were the proto-Kharadron Overlords in many ways. Here’s hoping they get a second life thanks to Cities of Sigmar.

Sisters of the Thorn

These models and the Wild Riders are really unique looking in the AoS range. They have an otherworldly quality to them and are freaking DEER cavalry! There weren’t exactly a
“go-to” unit option before but we like the look of them and wouldn’t mind seeing them show-up more on the tabletop. Maybe Cities of Sigmar will change that…

Phoenix Guard

The Phoenix Guard are a unit that used to be an old staple. They are still relatively tough to kill and can hit pretty hard themselves. From the looks of things, if they go battleline and get a boost in the rules department, they might be a great anvil unit that, apparently, just won’t die!

Bonus: Steam Tank

Full disclosure – I’m personally not a fan of the Steam Tank. But someone in the BoLS office is. And they requested that it was on “our” list. So…sure. Here you go. Steam Tanks as Battleline. Oh fun. Honestly, it’s not the terror that it once was back in Warhammer Fantasy but I’ve got too many bad memories of the Steam Tanks ruining my games. That’s why it’s getting the bonus slot.

What units are you hoping got a boost in the new Cities of Sigmar battletome? Let us know in the comments!
