Geekery: Sony and Disney Mend Fences – Spider-Man Returns to MCU
The two studios have worked out a deal that will allow Spider-Man to finish a trilogy of films before moving to Sony. Deadline is reporting that the partnership will release one more movie with Tom Holland and Zendaya, with participation from Marvel Studios. This will hopefully allow the creative team to finish out the story started in Homecoming. As part of the deal, Spider-Man will appear in another (unspecified) MCU movie.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be producing the project. He had this to say…
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Holland let Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort speak for him…
The untitled Spidey film is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
