Goatboy’s 40K: Can You Win With Chaos Bikers?
It’s a dream of mine to get another biker army to work. Let’s build 3 units of Chaos Bikers and see what magic we can come up with.
Unfortunately GW has not graced me with a Troop Biker choice yet so it leaves me with options to only take 3. I could of course go into the White Scars realm of things – which is something I am sure will see – but friends I would rather go Chaos if I could. So with this in mind – let’s build 3 units of Chaos Bikers and see what magic we can come up with.
Decisions, Decisions
First of all – lets pick a Legion. Thankfully Chaos Bikers get Legion traits so they can get gud with some well pick Legion goodness. I think will have to go Alpha Legion as it gives them some protection as well as leaves them access to Chaos Space Marines best Strat – Veterans of the Long War. I think there could be some play in the Red Corsairs as you can advance 6 and still charge – but missing the -1 to hit is a big thing to not have. Thus we go with Alpha Legion.
After that I think we go with the following Mark pick – one Slaanesh, one Khorne, and one Nurgle. The Tzeentch one would be a neat one if the Thousand Sons powers worked on a mark of Tzeentch. But since GW doesn’t want me to have fun making bikers with funny helmets we have to sit with the normal Legions of Chaos. Going these 3 marks gives you a chance to have a -2 to hit unit, a unit that can double assault, and a unit that can Double Shoot with Feel No Pain. The Chaos Sorcerers will have Jump Packs to keep up, stay relevant as they won’t go away with the Legends book, and give you some conversion goodness to mess around with. The Khorne one will just have an unmarked buddy to help them out. From there I think will throw in some basic troops, some Jump Pack Chaos Lords (again that dang Legend book threat), and maybe some stuff to that can do some shooting damage beyond bolters.
At Last…the Bikes!
Let’s start with the 3 units of bikes. I know per the Index you can give the Aspiring Champ a combi-bolter – but I want to future proof this army. You know just in case I feel like scrounging up a bunch of bikes, throwing some greenstuff/conversions on them, and bringing something goofy to the table top.
Chaos Space Marine Bikers X 9 – Mark of Slaanesh, Chainsword X 8, Aspiring Champ – Chainaxe – 208pts
Chaos Space Marine Bikers X 9 – Mark of Khorne, Chainsword X 8, Aspiring Champ – Chainaxe – 208pts
Chaos Space Marine Bikers X 9 – Mark of Nurgle, Chainsword X 8, Aspiring Champ – Chainaxe – 208pts
Then for each one they need a friendly Sorcerer.
Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer – Mark of Slaanesh, Jump Pack, Force Staff – 120pts
Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer – Mark of Nurgle, Jump Pack, Force Staff – 120pts
Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer – Jump Pack, Force Staff – 120pts
After that we should get some Chaos Lords to help out. Again I wish they would give me Bikes for all of them but without an update we are left holding those awesome conversions in a case – wet with our tears.
Chaos Space Marine Chaos Lord – Mark of Khorne, Chainsword X 2, Jump Pack, Warlord – I am Alpharius, Relic – Hydra Blade – 94pts
Chaos Space Marine Chaos Lord – Mark of Slaanesh, Thunder Hammer, Jump Pack – 114pts
Chaos Space Marine Chaos Lord – Mark of Nurgle, Thunder Hammer, Jump Pack – 114pts
Putting it All Together
I guess we need to see if this mess actually fits together in some Detachments as well. With the cost of Cultists going up to 50 points it makes some basic Chaos Space Marines interesting as they can sit back, hide, and with being Alpha legion have that nice -1 to hit and hopefully keep them alive a bit.

Tactics
This doesn’t give you a ton to do more then a few double shoots as needed, maybe an advance/charge, and a double attack. It might be worth it to remove some things, tweak it a bit, and get more CP – but that wouldn’t be nearly as cool. Of course there is a ton of duplication – but what did you expect from a dumb Goatboy list. I like the I Am Alpharius warlord trait as we have so many HQ’s that will never lose them all – unless we are tabled. It still would look neat on the table top and might win you more games then you lose.
~Do you think bikes can still cut it in the game, or is their time past?
