Games Workshop has been setting up a new event in 40k with Psychic Awakening – are we going to see a new army come from all this? We hope so!

The Warhammer 40,000 universe is a big place. GW has been moving forward with the story line and adding lots of new elements to the lore as well. Even now, we’re on the cusp of the Psychic Awakening that promises to really shake things up! That said, one of biggest ways to shake things up is to introduce a new army. So here are 5 we’d like to see – and how they could fit in the new story arc that GW is working-up.

Traitor Guard

The Traitor Guard are already getting support and models via the Blackstone Fortress – they seem like a logical “new” army line in the future. GW just released the Servants of the Abyss Pack as well for yet another way to get more Traitor Guard models out there. How could they be used in the current events? Well, Traitor Guard are still a thing in the universe – but specifically, the Blackstone Fortress is a mystery that is being slowly unraveled. Perhaps it’s a part of this whole Psychic Awakening – it clearly has something to do with the Warp after-all!

Dark Mechanicus

Right now, we’ve only got those Nega-volt cultists who are also from the Blackstone Fortress kit. However, we know there are LOTS more Dark Mechanicus forces floating around in the 40k universe. Let’s not forget the events of the Vigilus Sector! There are crazy Chaos Daemon Engines running around out there. And speaking of which, where the heck is the solo kit for the Venomcrawler? Is it waiting for a Dark Mechanicus allies expansion to arrive?

How would they fit? Well they might not be tied directly to Psychic Awakening, but they sure would make an excellent follow-up to Vigilus. The Nachmund Gauntlet must be guarded at two places after-all…

Exodites

The Exodites are the dino-riding Aeldari who decided to abandon their craftworld homes and settle on planets to escape their decadent civilization’s fall. With all the events of Psychic Awakening, and the fact that the Aeldari are getting the first look, why NOT bring them back now? They could make for a 5th Aeldari faction and help bolster their ranks even more in terms of balancing the scales between the Imperium, Chaos, and Xenos factions. Dino-riding Aeldari is also just fun to say!

Emperor’s Children

Okay, they aren’t technically “new” but, c’mon! Where the heck is the Emperor’s Children’s codex at? The Slaanesh Daemons are out and the EC would be the perfect complement to that army. Plus it mirrors the Death Guard/Nurgle and Thousand Sons/Tzeentch relationships. They could also use this opportunity to introduce a new primarch, which brings us to how this would fit in the current story.

The Phoenix is rising – that could be a play on words for the Phoenician, aka Fulgrim! The Primarch of the Emperor’s Children has been mentioned a few times in the lore and teased as doing things in the background. So where the heck is he? We don’t know, but we’d love to see him make an appearance!

Legion of The Damned

Did anyone else notice that these ghosty Marines went missing from the Space Marine book? They’ve been missing for awhile now but they still have models available from GW on their webstore. So what gives? Are we going to see the return of these mysterious Space Marines – and how could they come back? Get ready for a stretch here but it’s believed that the LoD chapter came from the fall of the Fire Hawks. The Fire Hawk sure looks and sounds like a Phoenix to us…

Could this be related? It’s a long shot so don’t get your hopes up. But we are keeping that on the backburner for now.

Bonus: Loyalist Dark Angels

The Loyalist “Fallen” Dark Angels have gotten a pretty bad reputation. We’re hoping that the Mystery of Cypher gets revealed – we know he got pretty darn close to Terra and the Emperor. Will he finally be able to deliver his message and tell the Imperium about the traitorous actions of the other Dark Angels?! Will he be able to redeem his chapter? We’d love to see how that one plays out. How could it be worked in? Well, the Phoenix is also a symbol of rebirth and perhaps Cypher is able to help the Emperor become reborn – or maybe his actions lead to a rebirth the Loyalist Dark Angels! Whatever the case, I just want to see an Army of the “Fallen” Dark Angels get a full set of rules. Screw this hiding thing, it’s time to fight!

What army would you like to see show up in the game next and how would you tie them to the lore?
