Marvel Comics and Games Workshop are teaming up to tell stories in Warhammer Universe. Well here are a few suggestions for the ones we’d like to read!

You’ve probably seen the news already but in case you missed it this week, Marvel and Games Workshop have announced a partnership to produce Warhammer Comics.

Games Workshop and Marvel are collaborating to create Warhammer comics! Even better, the first comics are due to land in autumn 2020.”

Yes, it’s happening! And more importantly, note that it’s “Warhammer COMICS” as in plural. Are we going to see 40k in the comics? Probably. How about Age of Sigmar? Also highly likely. But that said, we all know how comics love to do cross-overs, right? Well here are some suggestions of stories we’d love to see get told.

Captain America In The Grimdark

Captain America has always been an Icon of Truth, Justice and the American Way. He’s the personification of the “ideal” America circa the 1940s. But everyone knows that about Cap – his backstory provides all the baseline info you need to write a really cool story. Thanks to the plot device of “frozen in a block of ice and thawed out years later” Marvel can quite literally take Steve Rodgers and time displace him for every generation. If he can wake up 60 years later, there is no reason he can’t wake up 38,000 years later, right?

Plus the juxtaposition of Captain America vs the Fascist Regime of the Imperium would be one heck of a story to tell. Would he wake up and think Hydra had won? How would he react to a world where the “Super Solider” is now standard issue? Would he meet Guilliman and become best friends? Hijinx would ensue.

The Punisher Vs Necromunda

This one is another pretty obvious crossover. A Grimdark version of Frank Castle takes on The Necromunda Hive. It’s what he does – kills Gangsters. Except these are Grimdark Gangsters. Maybe he was an undercover Enforcer who got betrayed and left for dead. Maybe his family got caught in the crossfire between two gangs and he’s out for revenge/justice. Maybe it’s typical Frank Castle Punisher and it’s just a one-man crusade to clean up the street, or rather, the Hive, in this case. This story is a perfect fit.

Black Widow: Callidus Assassin

This one pretty much writes itself. Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, is already a trained assassin/superhero, right? Callidus Assassins are pretty much superhuman assassins. Heck, the model is already wearing a similar outfit and hair, too! Transplant Black Widow into the universe as a Callidus Assassin and let’s get this comic started. Her first mission could be to assassinate a warlord/heretic in the heart of the Imperium. Or maybe a rogue Tech-priest fanatic of the Cult of the New Omnissiah (more on that below)…

Guardians of the Grimdark Galaxy

You know who helped write Guardians of the Galaxy? The comic, not the movie. Dan Abnett (along with Andy Lanning).  You know who kinda knows his way around the Grimdark Universe? Dan Abnett. And while he may have written about the Guardians facing off against super zealous religious empire already, there are plenty of stories to tell with the Guardians of the Grimdark Galaxy!

Iron Man: Martian Omnissiah

Tony Stark, Iron Man. And Omnissiah. This totally works. Tony Stark is a genius, but he’s also super arrogant. And didn’t he become an A.I. anyways? So what if that A.I. found itself on Mars and uploaded itself onto the Adeptus Mechanicus machines? Maybe Iron Man starts out as a Machine Spirit that builds himself a body and goes from there. That might be a little bit too Ultron, but you get the idea. How would Tony Stark reborn react to a society that worships machines? He’d probably laugh at the fact that he’d be the only one who actually knows how any of the technology actually works. Shenanigans would ensue.

Bonus: Hulk, Champion of Khorne

Hulk has anger issues. Khorne has anger issues. It seems like a good match. There are also lots of different Hulks running around anyhow – so it wouldn’t have to be Bruce Banner/Hulk either. Point is Hulk gets angry and starts smashing things. Khorne seems like the type of Chaos God that would appreciate a good smasher of things – as long as he left their skulls intact.

You know, maybe I’ve got this one wrong. Maybe instead of Khorne, The Hulk goes and hangs out with the Orks. He’s mean and green and they would totally respect how Hulk operates! HULK WAAAGH!!!!
