Now that Eberron: Rising from the Last War is out, creator Keith Baker has unveiled what’s next for the magitech-laden world in an upcoming new book.

We’ve talked about Keith Baker’s followup project to Eberron: Rising from the Last War — previously titled Project Raptor, the book is set to expand the world of Eberron beyond the shores of Khorvaire, with a particular focus on the wilder parts of the world. Including the aquatic nations of the Sunder Sea, or the fact that the dwarves of the Mror Hold are working with symbiotes from Xoriat.

Now Baker has revealed the cover of the new book, as well as hinting a little at things to come. Let’s take a look at the new spread, and take a first look at Exploring Eberron, soon to be released on the DM’s Guild.

As part of the development cycle we commissioned new art from a host of fantastic artists. The image above is the mock-up of the front cover; below you can see the full wrap-around image, designed by artist Thomas Bourdon.

In developing the book, Wayne Chang and I developed a few iconic characters who appear in multiple images. Here they’re dealing with a few friends from Dal Quor (note the portal in the background), which ties to the planar content in the book.

There’s a lot to be learned from the iconic characters. Each of them has their own personal story and that reveals a little it about what you can expect. You can see the core party, consisting of Ban, a goblin rogue, Dela an artificer, Rev, a warforged barbarian, and Rusty, a dwarven warlock out of the Mror Holds.

And that’s where we start to get into some real interesting details. If you look closely at Rusty’s hands here, as he battles with a Dal Quori aberration you’ll see one hand is holding a wand, but the other is some sort of warped claw. According to Baker this is the first glimpse we have at new symbiont weapons, which will appear in the new book.

Gentle, meanwhile is using psionic claws of some kind that Baker says are part of a new subclass option presented in Exploring Eberron, as is the mystic green shield that Dela seems to be conjuring.
