Warhammer 40K: Black Templar Stratagems Breakdown
The Black Templars have arrived with Faith & Fury. Let’s explore their new stratagems and see what these zealots bring to the tabletop!
When Rogal Dorn split his legion, his most zealous sons formed the Black Templars. They are a Chapter on a constant crusade across the galaxy to purge heresy where ever they find it. Their stratagems reflect that legacy and today we are diving into their entire set. Let’s do this!
Abhor The Witch
This one is an old school callout to their anti-psyker heritage. It’s a last-ditch effort to stop a Psychic Power. What’s neat about this one is that it happens after any Deny the Witch rolls have been made so you can save your CP until you absoultely need to spend it. On a 4+ you stop the power from going off.
Crusader Relics
This is the “Sergeant” upgrade Stratagem that we’ve seen in previous Space Marine books. On the plus side, this also works on Sword Brothers as well. Now you can equip them with the different Relic options listed.
Devout Push
Your Pile In and Consolidate moves go from 3″ to 6″ for the rest of the Fight Phase.
Tenacious Assault
For 2 CP, the stratagem allows your Black Templars the to stay in the safety of Close Combat. On a 2+ you deny the enemy the ability to fall back.
The Emperor’s Will
For 1 CP, you can choose a Black Templar Infantry unit to Advance and still be able to fire pistol weapons AND charge in the same turn.
Oaths of Honour
Another 1 CP stratagem this allows your Black Templar Scout units to re-roll wound rolls if they charged or were charged this turn.
Vicious Riposte
This stratagem turns your unmodified saves of 6s into mortal wounds on the attacking target in the fight phase – take that heretic! It only works on your Black Templar Infantry units, but if you’re going to take a bucket of saves, why not punch back!?
Shock and Awe
Black Templar Infantry and Land Raider Crusaders go together like peanut butter and jelly. This combo allows the unit that disembarked from the Land Raider Crusader to avoid Overwatch shots. On top of that, any units attacking them in the fight phase also suffer a -1 to hit penalty.
Those are all the new stratagems for the Black Templars. Between these and the ones from the Space Marine book, I’m sure there are going to be some nasty tricks you can pull for these crusaders. I wonder if they count as Imperial Fist Successors, too…
