It’s time to dive into the Battletome for the Slaves to Darkness – Here comes Archaon and his armies!
Armies of the Everchosen
Archaon is back with a host of new rules and a quad of new sub-factions to use as his chaos legions. The Slaves to Darkness are broken down into four different sub-sets of army types depending on how you want to play.
- The Ravagers are your mixes of Chaos Warbands who have allied together to form a Chaos Horde. If you want to have a mix of units and multiple Warlords running around, this is a great place to start.
- The Cabalites are the Wizard-heavy sub-faction. If you want to blast your opponent with magic and have lots of cultists running around then this is the faction for you!
- The Despoilers are an interesting option. This one has a focus on the Daemon Princes and Monsters of Chaos. If you want to run a force that uses a bunch of the big kits and heavy hitters this could be a contender.
- And finally we have the Host of the Everchosen. If you’re playing with Archaon, this is the one for you. There are Eight different circles to choose from for your forces that can make them even more buffed-up than before. All I’m going to say is “Flying Varanguard.”
Aside from that the book has quite a bit going on – each one of those factions has their own set of rules: Battle Traits, Command Traits, and Artefacts of Power. The exception is the Host of the Everchosen who don’t get Artefacts of Power or Command Traits. They get their Circle Abilities…and Archaon.
This book also delves pretty deep into the Lore of Archaon Hordes. It talks about their power structure and how they are all divided-up. It’s worth a read if you’re a lore junkie! Plus you get a glimpse into what he’s been up to since kicking everyone’s butt. It’s mostly been him planning his revenge against Sigmar. He’s also been probing at the other, newer threats and armies. His focus on Sigmar blinded him to Nagash’s threat – since the Necroquake, he’s begun to realise his error and has been reworking his plans to account for all his enemies.
While the army did get a bit more siloed, it has some serious teeth to it. Just about everything went up in points (unfortunately) but the statlines also went up to compenstate. Between their increased stats, the new re-worked auras, and all the other abilities, this army can be very deadly! If you wanted to play a hyper-elite army that can dishout a ton of pain, Slaves to Darkness can do just that. At the same time, you can also build a horde with marauders, or the big beasties, or even the Wizard-spell force of your dreams. You’ve got options, folks.
