Goatboy’s 40K: Golden Boys Biker Club – RIDE!!!
Goatboy here, and today we take the Flying Custodes and vampire friends out to claim victory for the Golden Throne!
At one point I painted up a ton of Custode Bikers for a tournament in Dallas. It was a fun time that was built before the coming of the Castellan and featured a ton of Blood Angels, some Custodes, and a whole bunch of hatred towards the Dark Eldar (my only two losses). I had a lot of fun with the army and thought – can I make it work again since Blood Angels got some new strats? With that in mind – let’s put on my little math hammer hat and see if I can build something cool.
I remember the issues the army had before – killing vehicles. Thus the issue with Dark Eldar and trying to find ways to knock out Venoms without betting on rolling well for Hurricane bolters. Before I jump in – Adeptus Custodes should get Bolter Drill. It just doesn’t make any sense they don’t get it as it only helps a few units. Come on – let my bikers make some cool pew pew noises and throw out some more bullets at 24 inches. Ok I will jump off that Soapbox for now. The new updated Custodes bikers from FW seem to fit the bill giving a decent high enough strength shot on the body of a bad ass – so most likely having one unit of them might solve those issues. Mix that with the Blood Angels I have painted up and we might have something to cook with.

Golden Tactics
When I played the original list I always felt like I needed a better gun – the new FW Las Pulsars seem to fit the bill being strength 8 and 2d3 shots. I am at a -1 to shoot if I move – but at 24″ plus my move I should be able to get where I need to be and punish things as needed. Plus they can punch up like the other bikers too. The Sanguinary Guard is just an add on to give another assault punch as they can come down turn 3 and get to work in the backfield – or get people out of buildings as needed. Mephiston is there because I like the new model and it would be the only thing beyond the FW bikes to get to have the army working.
Thoughts? It has some speed, some decent firepower, and it isn’t just a Marine army. Oh and it isn’t Chaos too so that is a bonus. This looks to be the last list for the year so lets hope we get some cool new armies next year. Or hey – maybe get Grey Knights to work.
