Warhammer 40K: The Curious Case of the Warboss on Warbike
In the age of Warhammer Legends, as old datasheets vanish and HQs on bikes vanish into the mists of memory, one last biker HQ has survived!
Gather ye ’round and let us hear the curious case of the Warboss on a warbike. The last remaining X on a Bike HQ choice. It’s a unique case among the old Warhammer Models, most of which, now no longer sold, have been resigned to the annals of Warhammer Legends, where their datasheets will remain–with rules that will never be updated, nor used in matched play. Such is the fate of most of the biker HQ choices. Librarians on Bikes, Interrogator-Chaplains on Bikes, Rune Priests on Bikes… if they were a special unit on a bike, they have for the most part vanished from 40K proper.
Except for one.
Forgeworld Warboss on Warbike $73
This is the Warboss on a Warbike. And he is a strange case of models and rules and production that seems to have fallen through the cracks and come out on top. Let’s start with the model, created by Forge World. This is where the heart of the matter begins. So when the Indexes for 8th Edition first came out, the Warboss on a Warbike first appeared, you would be forgiven for thinking the Warboss on a Warbike would, as a Forge World model, appear in the Imperial Armour Index: Xenos, which featured the rules for most of the Forge World models.
Index Xenos: Nowhere to be found…
Only our Warboss on a Warbike is oddly not included in the Forge World Index Xenos book. Instead his datasheet turns up in the normal 40K Index Xenos 2:
One of the only Forge World models included alongside the regular rules. It’s odd, but it’s also the sort of saving grace that comes into play with what matters, the Munitorum Field Manual.
Munitorum Forge World Orks
The Munitorum Field Manual includes selected models to be updated. And while most of the models from the normal Indexes do not have rules or updates in the Munitorum Field Manual, having been relegated to either Warhammer Legends, or released in a Codex Proper, the Warboss on a Warbike is listed in there… in the Forge world Ork section:
My guess is, he has a model still in production… so he’s in. So ride on my green friend, you fell through the cracks and are the last of the Index Biker HQs to still cruise the highways of the Grimdark. Enjoy it!
