The classic Valiant Comics character hits the the big screen for the first time next month, but his story already feels tired.

They really should have called this Bloodshot: A Tale of Traumatic Brain Injury. I think I would dig this more if it were made about 20 years ago. It has nothing to do with the character, and I know he’s been around for over 30 years. It’s just that I’ve already seen plenty of violent action movies focused on super-soldiers with messed up memories – I’m not sure if they can push outside the box enough for this not to feel re-hashed. Some positive things: the CG looks not horrible and Vin being Vin on screen is usually pretty fun even if the movie is terrible.

The official synopsis:

Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.

This is  director Dave Wilson’s first feature length, he has a long history in visual effects and he directed ‘Sonnie’s Edge‘ for Netflix’s Love Death + Robots. The cast is led by Vin Diesel, and includes Guy Pearce, Eiza González, and Sam Heughan.

Bloodshot hits theaters February 21.
