Geekery: Geeeet Reeeadyyyy for Monster Wrasslin’ in ‘Rumble’
Monster wrestling is a big deal in this new movie where monsters are athletes, not threats. A young trainer aiming to follow in her father’s footsteps takes on making a champion out of an inexperienced contender.
Wrestling has a big and enthusiastic fan base, and I think this will be great for them. It’s got a Kung Fu Panda and Rocky vibe going for it. Not sure how well it’ll translate to adult audiences (they’re trying with that Dirty Dancing joke), but I can definitely see WWE and AEW fans taking their kiddos to see this.
Rumble is directed by Hamish Grieve (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens) with a screenplay from Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder). Voice cast includes Terry Crews, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns, Ben Schwartz, Steven Smith, and Tony Danza.
Rumble body slams into theaters on January 29, 2021.
