Geekery: Kovacs Gets Sleeve Upgrades in New ‘Altered Carbon’ Trailer
Death is endlessly avoidable in the world of Altered Carbon, a sci-fi thriller set more than 300 years in the future. Takeshi Kovacs has a new sleeve for his exploits in the second season.
The series is based on the novels by Richard Morgan, and is set in a universe where people don’t die, they just move on to a new body using a system called a cortical stack. The tech downloads a person’s consciousness to a disk that can be moved from body to body – or sleeve. You can check out the first season on Neflix now. The story has a lot of twists and turns, and some surprisingly comedic moments. The production has the hallmarks of the cyberpunk genre. It takes a lot of visual cues from it’s predecessors – Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Robert Longo’s Johnny Mnuemonic.
In season two Takeshi Kovacs gets a new sleeve…
The first season had its problems, but it was entertaining and different in a landscape of super heroes and family friendly sci-fi. It’s got a great mix of pulp and cyberpunk, and a sleek production. I’m on board for the next chapter – curious to see what else they’ve added to Kovacs’ sleeve beyond what looks like either magnets or psychokinesis.
The second season will see the return of Poe (Chris Conner) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Quellcrist Falconer) as well as new cast members Simone Missick as Trepp, Dina Shihabi as Dig 301, Torbin Liebrecht as Colonel Ivan Carerra, and James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki.
After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Takeshi Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quellcrist Falconer. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe, Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?
Altered Carbon Season 2 drops on Netflix February 27th.
