Warhammer: The Old World – New (Old) Map Revealed
It’s new map of the Old World and the first update from Games Workshop from the world that was!
Maps! Maybe it’s just a personal thing, but I love looking at maps of fantasy and sci-fi places. There is something about seeing these visual representations that makes their universes and worlds more “real” to me. So yes, this first update from the Warhammer Old World has me excited because it’s an updated map!
You’ve seen the logo and we’ve hinted about what is to come, but today we’ve got another teaser for you – a work-in-progress of a new map of the Empire in the world-that-was…
Now that is a thing of beauty! You might recognize a few of the places that have been filled in (so far) but this map is very much a work in progress. For comparison here’s an old world map for Warhammer Fantasy:
There certainly is a lot more to go – but WOW. This is quite the update for sure – but that’s not all. Games Workshop has also hinted at more to come for the Old World:
Over the coming months, we’ll keep you up to date with news from the project as it continues to take shape, including the lore, art, rules, and eventually… new models.
Yep – You read that right! New Models for the Old World. I’m a little confused as to how they are going to do re-do the lore as there is something like 30 years of it to work from. I can see them updating the art with new stuff and while they DO have a ruleset for Warhammer Fantasy, it’s not surprising we’re probably going to get a new ruleset as well. But new models?! Not that they aren’t already cranking out ton of fantastic new kits for AoS, but now they eventually want to do new models for the Old World, too?
There is a literal world of possibilities for them to work from here. Again, when this project was announced it was projected to be two to three years out. Minimum. Regardless, it’s nice to get a quick update even it’s a map and confirmation that, “yes – we’re working on new stuff” for the Old World. I’m really hoping they continue to hammer out the details and hopefully we’ll get an expanded map for everything else! If they are making the map this impressive, I can’t wait to see what they do with the models.
