I’ve done some number crunching on every remaining Psychic Awakening faction to see just who really needs plastic kit upgrades. Take a look.

Psychic Awakening keeps trucking along, kicking out new miniatures for many of the game’s factions as it gets to them in turn. WE have 8 books confirmed so far. While we don’t know exactly how many books there will be, we do know who’s left.

  • Harlequins
  • Deathwatch
  • Custodes
  • Death Guard
  • Necrons
  • Sisters
  • Imperial Knights
  • Chaos Knights
  • Chaos Daemons
  • Adeptus Mechanicus

With that in mind, I wanted to dove into the remaining factions and see exactly what we can glean from a stats breakdown of how many finecast or metal minis each has to see what we GW may be targeting to replace.

The PA Finecast Census Rules

Here are some ground rules:

  • The Census Timestamp is March 2020 (we aren’t counting Saga of the Beast)
  • “Core” Codexes only (no indexes, or Forge World, Supplementals)
  • We are counting units that have been formally announced by GW as being plastic, even if they are not yet released.
  • Finecast models must be available for sale by GW right now.
  • We are ordering the factions from most Finecast units to least.

The 2020 Stats:

We are listing Finecast Units in the current codex, and the total number of units in the codex so we can get a decent ratio.

The Double-Digit Club

Necrons – 36 Units – 12 finecast (characters, Flayed Ones, C’tan)

Notable Factions

Necrons – They are the worst shape of the remaining factions with a boatload of finecast characters. There are rumors swirling that Szeras may have a new model coming, but it’s clear that GW needs to start cutting down that list and moving some of these guys to plastic fast.

Death Guard – The largest model-count army that is 100% plastic! The army ‘s mini range is already robust. What would they need?

Sororitas – Almost there, with only a handful of oddball Ecclesiarchy units still in finecast. A plastic Priest/Missionary would be nice.

Chaos Daemons – With only 2 characters left, I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of these done to complete the range.

100% Plastic Club – I was surprised that 6 of the remaining 10 Psychic Awakening factions are are totally plastic.  I can see some of the smaller forces who need diversity getting a single character, or very small unit, most likely Harlequins or Custodes.

We have seen from 1-4 units released per volume of Psychic awakening, and with 2 or 3 volumes left, you can do the math and come with with 3-9 new models before it wraps up, probably spread around as many of those factions, where GW thinks things are most needed.

An Educated Guess

Putting it all together I would make an educated guess of:

  • Harlequins – 1 model (HQ)
  • Deathwatch – 1 model (Primaris HQ, maybe Artemis)
  • Custodes – 1 model (???)
  • Death Guard – 1 model (???)
  • Necrons – 1 model (HQ)
  • Sisters
  • Imperial Knights
  • Chaos Knights
  • Chaos Daemons – 2 models (Epidemius, Blue Scribes)
  • Adeptus Mechanicus
  • + Fabius Bile
