Warcaster Neo-Mechanika is only a few hours old and it’s already shot well past its crowdfunding goals. Here’s a look at their campaign.

Privateer Press’s new game, set in the far future of their universe, where civilization has long ago left behind the world of Caen and the Iron Kingdoms, trading steam-powered Warjacks for high-tech blasters and arc-powered “neo mechanika” or Warjacks that are literally robots, has successfully funded in the first 30 minutes of its Kickstarter campaign.

This puts it well ahead of its $100,000 goal before the end of its first day, and for a Kickstarter campaign with such a tight timeline, this initial day is crucial. But it looks like Warcaster Neo-Mechanika is secure, and now it’s a question of which stretch goals get unlocked by the end of its 16 day crowdfunding campaign. Speaking of which, let’s take a look at the campaign!

Many ages ago, before the founding of the Thousand Worlds and the generations-spanning war with the ancient Architects, the Keepers tell of chanpions from a bygone era, whose valiant sacrifice saved humanity and allowed us to spread throughout the stars.

Now, this galaxy is dying. Its life forces greedily syphoned to power the machines of war. Strife and unrest pervade the Thousand Worlds, and a terrifying darkness lurks on the fringes of our existence, threatening extinction.

Once again, our only hope rests in the hands of the heroes of our age: the Warcasters.

If you didn’t catch the unveiling, Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika takes Privateer’s brand of miniatures combat and brings it into the far future, into a world of glowing energy shields and robotic Warjacks armed with rail guns and beam sabers. Practically speaking, it’s a change to the Warmachine paradigm with a few fundamental differences that have us intrigued. For starters, you no longer can ‘caster kill’ instead Warcasters are you the player, who is a general floating above the battlefield ensconced safely in a battlecruiser. Secondly, as your forces are killed, they rejoin the reserves and can continually be brought back, meaning attrition only goes so far in a game.

Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika is a high-speed hobby miniatures game for two players who each take on the role of a powerful Warcaster in command of a formidable battle force. Players assemble and customize a force of 20–30 models and fight a scenario-driven battle using dice and cards to control their mighty units and to cast epic Cyphers. The game is played using an alternating-activation turn sequence with a round tracker that governs scoring opportunities and the duration of ongoing effects. Players take turns activating units one at a time and using their rack of Cyphers: reality-warping spells that can be used to enhance their troops and warjacks or to devastate their opponent’s forces.

There’s a whole lot on the way, so now’s your chance to get in on the ground floor.
