AoS: Warhammer In The Time Of Isolation
Looking to stay hip deep in the Mortal Realms in spite of the general quarantine? Here’s a few ways to stay isolated and still get your wargaming in.
As important as social distancing is during this time, it has definitely put a Gargant-sized hold on our ability to game. However, just because you’re out of melee range doesn’t mean you can’t throw some dice with your friends. Here’s three ways you can keep gaming, even when you can’t meet up.
Solo Campaign
GW put out a few of these on their website, but there’s no reason you can’t make one work for yourself or even a small group of quarantine buddies (but only if you’re already together; Nurgle might want you to share the ‘rona but don’t do it). You can take a big monster or a team of them and put together a plucky group of warriors to take them down, or just throw two small squads at each other and see who comes out on top. For added fun, give each of your soldiers some sort of special rule or artefact and make your monsters even scarier, then keep a running tally to see who can defeat the most powerful creature.
Tabletop Simulator
Not just for Age of Sigmar, Tabletop Simulator lets you play all manner of board games over the web with friends. However, you can also download most of the new armies for AoS and play a few rounds with the system. It isn’t perfect or course, and you have to use the paint jobs provided by the modders, but hey, any port in a pandemic. This is a great way to keep your skills sharp, and you can even keep painting while you play!
Honor System
This is, for obvious reasons, the hardest way to play logistically. You will need a pair of cameras, some sort of Skype style messenger (which isn’t a big deal but still), and a lot of communication. Since you won’t be able to see each other, you’ll need to carefully figure out location, always play honestly, and occasionally just make some things up. It might not always work, but for a fun distraction from isolation, it serves.
