Geekery: Catherine’s Coup D’état Becomes a Dark Comedy in ‘The Great’

From the writer behind The Favourite comes a satirical comedy about the fall of Peter III and the rise of Catherine the Great.

This is a definite yes from me. It isn’t meant to be historically accurate outside of the big plot points. Tony McNamara – the Oscar nominated screenwriter behind The Favourite – penned the script based on a book he published in 2008. He’s a fantastic satirist and he writes female characters that are multifaceted humans.

The series stars Elle Fanning as Catherine and Nicholas Hoult as Peter, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow.

The Great premieres on Hulu May 15th.
