Horus Heresy: Ranking The Traitor Primarch Models
It’s the traitor’s turn. Let’s rank the Traitor Primarch Models!
Well, the Loyalists got their turn yesterday and in the spirit of fairness, it’s time to rank the Traitors! Again, this is a completely subjective task of ranking the Primarch Models. We are ranking them purely based on looks and how much we like them. If you disagree with our rankings that’s cool – let us know how you would rank them and why in the comments.
#9 Lorgar
Lorgar of the Word Bearers is my (Adam’s) least favorite Primarch. I (Adam) vetoed all other Traitor Primarchs from being last place and, since I’m the one that had the duty of collating this list for the BoLS crew, I got to put my least favorite in the spot he belongs – dead last. Why don’t I like this model? You know, the armor isn’t bad – but it’s just everything else about this model that I dislike. The face in particular (while WAY better than anything I could sculpt) just looks kinda…bad. The pose is also somewhat plain. But hey, that’s also Lorgar…he’s always been kind of bland and looking for someone else to find his identity in.
#8 Fulgrim
Fulgrim is next up. He’s got a lot of movement going on, but he looks less like a graceful-warrior and more like a ballerina in stage armor. He could be singing an opera! It’s overly dramatic and while he’s paired up with his brother Ferrus Manus in an epic fight, looking at him solo, the model looks awkward. We do like the armor and all the extra details of this one and if he was in less of a “dance-dance” pose, it might have ranked higher.
#7 Perturabo
Big and bulky, the Primarch of the Iron Warriors clocks in at #7. We really like that he’s standing atop a knight – it’s quite the battle rubble for sure. He looks like a walking siege tank. But he also reminds us of Dynamo from The Running Man (1987) action movie:
The grimace and the pose is pretty close. Accidental cross-over?
#6 Konrad Curze
Curze is the Primarch of the Night Lords and he’s basically an evil Batman. We like that he’s got a non-standard pose as he’s perched precariously on a ruined ledge. He also looks like he’s about ready to dive off it and stab someone, which is quite fitting. We had to put him here otherwise he’d be likely to pounce like a tiger. His armor is also pretty creepy with the bones and detail work. We’re a little surprised he’s not the vampire of the Primarchs to be honest…
#5 Alpharius (?)
Is that REALLY Alpharius coming in at #5? Possibly. As the Primarch of the Alpha Legion, you never can tell. The scales on his armor are pretty rad and we also like that he’s about to deliver the death blow with his spear. It’s a pose that really tells a story and we dig it.
#4 Angron
Angron is MAD. But you probably knew that already. We like that his model captures his rage and showcases his momentum. You really get the sense that once Angron has his target he rushes at it straight on in a frothing anger, cleaving everything else in his way – friend or foe. Cool armor details, a great sense of movement, great pose – what’s not to like!? Just don’t be in front of him when he gets let off the leash…
#3 Magnus The Red
We really like the clean lines of Magnus’ model. We also like the flowy-ness of this one with the sense of magic that he is portraying. He’s exerting his psychically enhanced powers and “casting a spell” in this pose. We also love the scarab details quite a bit on the armor. Just a great, classic Primarch model.
#2 Horus The Warmaster
There is just something about this model that makes us want to set it apart from the others. Maybe it’s cause the Horus Heresy is named after him. But Horus’ model is really impressive. He’d be #1 if a certain someone with a massive Death Guard army didn’t overrule the rest of the BoLS crew. We loved the details of the wolf and his armor. We even like the pose – it’s similar to Guilliman’s but instead of the air of pretentiousness, Horus is actually important. This model is amazing!
#1 Mortarion
WOO HOO! Death Guard #1 For Life!

Well, there you go. Let us know how you’d rank them in the comments! It’s all subjective anyways.
