Welcome to this week’s BoLS Prime Insider.  Let’s talk industry whispers, what’s coming in the week ahead, and a look behind the scenes of the studio.

Welcome back to this week’s Insider. This will be an ongoing weekly column where you get a behind the scenes look into the BoLS office, what our core team is up to, and working on, as well as what we are hearing in the industry. Our promise to Prime members was to give you greater insight into what we are up to, excited about, and what we are seeing and hearing out there in the industry.

Remember you can always hop into the member groups and directly chat any of us up or ask questions. So enjoy and don’t be a stranger. On with the show.

In global news affecting everyone, the UK has extended their national lockdown 3 more weeks to May 7th. So assume GW isn’t coming back to normal before then. In the US, it’s anyone’s guess as it is up to the 50 State Governors to decide when to reopen their economies. These days in the US with the regional state responses it seems more like the opening chapter of every dystopian RPG ever.  Everyone stay safe and wear those masks!

GW has the third of their weekend teaser seminars coming up this Saturday. So check back in as AdamHarry has the helm and will be bringing you all the news. Chatter is pointing to a 40K New Edition announcement.  Fingers crossed!  On the other hand there’s talk that GW may try to stretch this thing into 4 seminars so we’ll see.

So we wait. We are all working on our personal hobby projects while we wait, and gathering what news is available. We are cooking up more than usual hobby items for you all in these next few weeks. Based on the positive reader reactions we are working up a new weekly hobby showcase from the BoLS gang including Thomas, Aventine, and Gentleben. It turns out that you all secretly wanted more cool conversions and gallery posts. Ask and you shall receive my friends. Look for those to show up on Wednesdays or Thursdays – we are still working out the schedule details.

Hey all – I hope this finds you well. I don’t know about you all, but I’m starting to finally feel the drain of being stuck at home all day. Thankfully, I’ve got some awesome hobbies to help pass the time. I’m actually really interested in playing the Solo Warhammer Adventures with the Nighthaunt as the bad guys. I actually have a Nighthaunt army so I’ve got the models! I’ve even got some Stormcast laying around that I haven’t bothered to assemble or paint. Maybe I’ll knock out a couple of heroes and give it a go!

Looking at the game, I think you’re going to want to be able to heal. I think that’s going to be pretty huge in this game. Just based on how it all shakes out – healing your 2-3 models to keep them healthy for the life of the adventure seems like a wise move. If you’re not familiar with it, that’s okay – it just came out from GW like 2 days ago. But basically it’s a dungeon delve using the AoS rules and a pretty basic AI/Mission chart. Seems fun! Anyhow, I might give it a go and report back in. Or I might build and paint some Stormcasts to take to the crypts. We’ll find out next week!

It’s been a bit of a busy week here–I was part of a D&D Charity stream this past Wednesday, playing D&D to raise money for Doctors Without Border as part of the F*ck Cancer Roll Dice organization. They’re going to be streaming for the rest of the week, you can catch them at twitch.tv/st_perseverance, or if you want to donate directly to the organization, which is providing PPE to doctors in need, you can check out the event page here and find out how you can win some fantastic DDO swag.

With all of the new images of the Dune cast, I’ve been in the mood to watch some space operas and epic based in the desert (being good isn’t a requirement here). Here are some recommendations and where you can find them.

Krull – Rent from Amazon for $3.99

John Carter – Netflix / Disney+

The Chronicles of Riddick – Rent from Amazon for $3.99 / Cinemax

After sinking like…90 hours into Mount and Blade II over the last couple of weeks I’ve switched over to a more casual new game called Gordian Quest. It’s a brand new game in early access that I found and have really enjoyed. Gordian Quest is a deck builder rogue-lite RPG (though its fairly lite on the RPG elements right now). The game seems pretty polished for early access, with more zones and heroes remaining to be added, but there is enough to play for a while and it’s stable, which is what I really want out of an early access game. It looks pretty solid and is just  in depth enough to be really fun. I feel it’s a tad bit RNG but it scratches the deckbuilder itch for me really well, and building the decks is fun. You get a real sense of accomplishment when you are able to turn an unoptimized starting deck into a well honed combo machine, I think Matt might really like it. Other than that this week has been work and reading. I finished Valdor and the Last Wall last week, so this week its Watchers of the Thorne and Old Earth.

Welp another week has passed and I am almost done with this Grey Knight commission.  12 Strikes left and this lot is done for a local friend.  I like not having to ship stuff.  This Wednesday stream I painted the new Ragnar.  He went to a long time client who has had me paint a lot of Space Wolves – so he was happy to be able to get his hands on the new model.  I added more to his base because I thought – heck he could be a bit taller.  Besides all of that I got a new list idea for the following week that seems dumb, an even stranger webcomic idea due to quarantining, and have hopes I can get a Mortarion built this weekend for next weeks paint night.  Oh and we got a preview coming so that usually means I get to figure out something on the fly to write about what we just saw – hopefully 9th edition.  Anyway – onto some stuff I did this past week.

Hello and Happy Friday, Adventurers! Another week has apparently gone by while I am pretty sure that it’s only been two or three days. Time flies when your house has become an assembly line of video game playing.

Despite the entire world doing its thing, my tabletop games haven’t slowed down in the slightest. My dad is excited to host our next family game night and everyone in weekly D&D is getting ready to meet again tonight. Sure, my husband’s character failed his death saves last session and now we need to stare at a new guy dubiously for a little bit, but that will be fine.

~Talk to all you folks next week!
