It’s time to drink like a Space Viking…sorta. “How To Drink” makes Fenrisian Ale!

Greg from How To Drink – a youtube channel that makes all sorts of fun cocktails and talks about movies, video games, TV, and an assortment of Pop Culture – tackles a subject near and dear to us: Warhammer 40K Booze!

Personally, I’ve been a fan of his channel for a while and you should be, too! He’s quite the mixologist and has a drink for everything. Plus the slow-mo pouring shots are amazing! Anyhow, his take on Fenrisian Ale is something else. It will get the job done – as will most things with Everclear in them. However, it’s not just his recipe that we liked, it was also his knowledge and reason behind the ingredients.

For example, in the recipe, you’ll note the inclusion of Absinthe. Why? Trace amounts of thujone which is a convulsant and can cause liver damage in high amounts. Why is that important? Well, Fenrisian Ale also contains a toxin from a plant native to Fenris that shuts down their Oolitic Kidney so they CAN get drunk. Basically, he’s an old school 40k player and knows his stuff! He’s dropping the names of the 3 organs that help Marines filter toxins (the Oolitic Kidney, Preomnor, and the Haesmastamen in case you were wondering).

Anyhow, the video is not only informative for non-40k fans, it’s a clear that Greg of How To Drink is also a fan of the franchise (he’s had a few armies over the years – watch the video to find out which ones). It’s great to learn that folks you follow online for completely different reasons also fans of the same thing you are. And it’s even better when you get a cool cross-over like this. Now, on to the drink!

Fenrisian Ale – The Recipe

  • 4 oz. (120 ml.) Viking Blod Mead
  • .25 oz. (8 ml.) Absinthe
  • .5 oz. (15 ml.) Everclear
  • Shake over Ice
  • Serve in a Skull

I probably would have gone with a nice mug instead of a skull – but the skull is pretty Grimdark appropriate when you think about it (GW loves their skulls). Anyhow, this cocktail packs a punch so drink responsibly!
