40K Op-ed: So About Those Pariahs
GW is throwing out a lot of interesting tidbits and clues involving the upcoming Necrons. Take a look.
This isn’t a “AHA I’VE FIGURED IT OUT” post. GW has very very circumspect about the upcoming Necrons, but it is obvious that something big is afoot. So instead I’m going to lay out a bunch of clues and grimdark factoids and let you try to detective it out.
Psychic Awakening – Pariah
Book 9 of the big Psychic Awkening series, may be the climax of the series. The Necrons are involved as is the Inquisition:
We get all kinds of artwork and the Inquisitor there is the one who kicked off the entire series late last year.
Blackstone
We now know that Blackstone is a key asset that can be used to either weaken the barrier between the material universe and the warp, or seal them off entirely. It is being mined and fought over by the Ad Mech, Necrons, Chaos Marines, and the Drukhari. The Necrons are ancient enemies of the warp, and would be looking to seal off the galaxy. Chaos Marines would obviously being trying to weaken the barriers between the two. The motives of the other two factions are unclear.
There is also the Blackstone Fortress up to it’s own agenda on the far galactic west, fully powered up and drawing ships from every race into itself.
Pariahs
The “Pariah” now have multiple meanings. The original one was a new Necron unit based on living races, effectively turned into slave soldiers. These units has a dampening effect on the warp very similar to Culexus Assassins, and Illuminator Szeras up there has been kidnapping those exact assassins for research purposes.
Pariah also refers to the Solitaire Kyganil that is getting an upcoming miniature. Solitaires themselves may have a soulless aspect allowing them to singularly play the role of Slaanesh in the Great Dance.
Necrons Are Kidnapping Humans
Next we get that story excerpt from Pariah yesterday of dull witted almost stunned humans being attacked and dragged underground by what appear to be Necrons. The main theme of the story was the humans being in a state of such melancholy that they could barely muster the energy to stand much less defend themselves. Next, note a detail on the Szeras model up there. That circular stone on his shoulder. We’ve seen it before from a November GW Rumor Engine post.
That is a piece of weaponized Blackstone known as the Empyric Overcharger and it’s deadly to psykers:
Psychic Awakening Climax
Whatever is in store, GW says the events of Psychic Awakening are “bigger than the Horus Heresy”. We don’t know for sure if Pariah is the final book in the series, but it does complete the last of the factions listed by GW. The appearance of the Inquisitor is also a good sign that this will wrap it up, as she is the one who kicked off the entire series. Remember this initial video from back in August?
