Nothing is as striking as a flying model, even if you do have to mess with flying bases to get ’em right. Anyway, here’s my favorite flying centerpieces.

Even with nothing new coming out right away, Games Workshop has no shortage of awesome looking models to act as army centerpieces. As cool as all the infantry lords are, personally I think nothing is quite as striking as a model suspended over the battlefield to swoop down on their prey or rain fire from above. Here’s my three favorite floating models, and what I think makes them so cool.

Arkanaut Ironclad

This is one of the models that actually drew my interest during my brief hiatus from Warhammer/Age of Sigmar after the End Times. I’ve always been a fan of steampunk, airships specifically, and the Ironclad is one of the coolest examples I’ve seen. The massive cannon, the figurehead, the iron balloons, everything about it just makes it an amazing centerpiece for not only Kharadron armies but really any force from Order. It also helps that the rules for it are incredible, and the different variations of Prow weapons can fit almost any situation they may have to face.

Flamespyre Phoenix

The phoenix has been one of my favorite models since it first showed up in the High Elf army book back in fantasy, and it’s just gorgeous. While I list the Flamespyre specifically, both of the Phoenix variants are awesome looking, and the Frostheart makes just as powerful as an impact as its fiery cousin. Whether leading a Cities of Sigmar army of Phoenix Guard or flying over an alliance of order, the fire and ice chickens can spread havoc and buffs in equal measure and look spectacular doing it. Stick an Anointed on their back and you also give it a 4+ shrug and a powerful command trait.

Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead

No list about big, beautiful models would be complete without including the progenitor of necromancy himself, Nagash. The bone boy has gone through a few alterations of the years, starting life looking more like a member of GWAR, but his current model is massive, and floats above the battlefield on a cloud of angry ghosts like the Death God he is. I have discussed his incredible rules in several articles before, but suffice to see he brings plenty of punch to the field to make up for his high cost. If you want a death army that’s sure to turn heads, bring this guy along.

What model is your army’s centerpiece?
