D&D: Playable Gnolls? You Bet! – Exploring Eberron Sneak Preview
Come and take a sneak preview of the upcoming ‘Exploring Eberron’ which includes many exciting changes, including playable gnolls. Check it out.
Exploring Eberron is a sourcebook that takes you into all the places that Eberron: Rising from the Last War could only scratch the surface of. This new book from the setting’s creator, Keith Baker, is being developed to go deep into Eberron’s rich history and lore, giving players and DMs insight into the various factions, cults, monsters, and mysteries. If you love Eberron and want more of it, this is exactly the book you are looking for.
Previously titled Project Raptor, the book is set to expand the world of Eberron beyond the shores of Khorvaire, with a particular focus on the wilder parts of the world. Including the aquatic nations of the Sunder Sea, or the fact that the dwarves of the Mror Hold are working with symbiotes from Xoriat.
But more importantly, Exploring Eberron includes new player options–specifically playable Gnolls, as the twitter account In My Eberron points out:

This is just one of many options that’ll be available to players, and it’s an interesting one to be sure. Gnolls in Eberron were created by the archfiends in ages past:
In the dawn of time, before the Sovereigns and the Silver Flame, Eberron was the domain of the fiendish overlords. This was an age of chaos, as the overlords constantly clashed with one another. The Rage of War commanded armies of fiends and savages, while the Wild Heart raised hordes of ravenous beasts. In the struggles between the two, the Wild Heart bred dire hyenas that could consume the Zakya warriors of Rak Tulkhesh. But fiends cannot be permanently slain by tooth or claw; their energy remains. Twisted from within by the immortal essence of the demons they’d devoured, the hyenas were warped into something entirely new, something that was neither beast or demon: and so the first gnolls were born.
Though the Znir Pact gnolls have turned their backs on the fiends that spawned them. There are plenty of options for gnolls looking to explore Droaam and other regions–and that’s just the start of the new player options available here. As we mentioned earlier, there’s something about those Mror Hold dwarves and their Daelkyr created tools… there’s more of a connection than you’d think. Take a look at Darkblood Dwarves and their Xoriat-induced mutations:
And there are plenty of Backgrounds and other such things awaiting players too, including race-specific backgrounds like the Changeling Traveler featured here:
And if you’re interested in learning more about what goes down in Eberron, the book will be packed full of setting information. We’ve got a sneak peek of the Thunder Sea here, perfect for the new ship rules that are now in play.
Exploring Eberron will release on the DM’s Guild “soon” so check back for more updates. If you’re looking to learn about everything Eberron, this is the book you’ll want.
Happy Adventuring!
