Goatboy’s 40K – Defilers of Delight

Goatboy here and I think I figured out how to use Defilers with an unholy union. Seriously!

This week saw the only rules update coming to the Harlies from White Dwarf leaks.  There isn’t anything new coming out but hopefully will get a nice big announcement on Saturday.  The hope is for 9th but I am guessing it is just something marine like.  All I know is we better start seeing some Psychic Awakening updates soon as the rumors point to 9th barreling down and ready to attack our wallets soon.  Anyway – as I continue to look at updating armies as I have no new rules to chew on for my personal plastic mounters it means I need to find something else to focus on.

Let’s Talk Defilers

My little skip down the Chaos codex has me landing on the old as heck Chaos Defiler kit.  I remember when I first left playing this game.  Its was back in the beginning of 3rd Edition.  I had just graduated college and once leaving for the real world I got a job, started dating someone, and left 40k behind.  Flash forward about 6 years later and I turn back to the game.  4th was raging back then and I finally got to see one of the first new “big” plastic kits from 40k.  The Chaos Defiler was something of a weird kit.  It didn’t have a base, was highly poseable, and looked like some kind of weird GI Joe-Cobra toy you played with when you were younger.  I ended up grabbing a few kits, kit based a few into odd things, and played with them from time to time.  I didn’t think they were super good back then and they continue to kinda be in an odd place in the current environment.

They don’t always shoot enough, hit as well as they should, and punch pretty low when they do get there.  What they do have though is a plethora of keywords that allows them to kind of connect to all sorts of options.  Now do I think they are good currently?  I am not sure.  They have a decent amount of wounds, can be very cheap, and love to hang out with a Lord Discordant or two.  In fact that is probably the big reason for looking at this army – my love of the Lord Disco and how fun he can get when you mix him with some Daemon Engines.  Plus – I found parts for one in my random digging thru bits to think – should I try to find more of these to make an army?  Can I shame people with the Defiler?

Meet My Newest Creation!

Legion choice is Alpha due to needing the Lord Discordant to stay alive.  There is something to say about doing an Iron Warriors build and comboing with some Khorne nonsense – but I don’t think it works as well. It isn’t like the Defiler shoots nearly as good as a Lord of Skulls – so moving it in a more protective direction just works better.  Plus I can go with a Slaanesh Daemon build to get some fun troops and a powerful character in the Mirror ladies.

Defiling Tactics

The idea is pretty simple – you have a bunch of beef sitting in the middle as you push forward and take the central aspects.  You can use Daemonettes to clear out buildings as needed and then just – hopefully tie things up as you go along.  Funny enough – I got most of this list beyond finding the Defilers I have laying around and finishing the Epitome I bought when it first came out.  I am hoping we get some new stuff to talk about after this weekend as it feels like its been forever since we had something new and unique to read about.

Until then – keep safe, keep painting, and Death to the False Emperor.
