Another week brings us more Black Order spoilers! We’re taking a look at Black Dwarf and some new Tactics cards for Crisis Protocol!

Last week I took a look at everything we knew about the Black Order so far. This week we’ve got a ton of new spoilers including the model who stands all tall as the Hulk, Black Dwarf!

Black Dwarf (aka Cull Obsidian)

The fourth member of the Black Order, I think everyone expected Black Dwarf to be the heavy hitter and tank of the group. Spoiler alert – he is!

Black Dwarf’s healthy and injured side are identical, except the injured side goes up to a substantial 8 health!

Axe Strike is a great base attack, with 6 power dice for 0 cost and a standard power generating ability. Brutal End hits hard and on a wild applies my personal favorite condition, Stagger. Everyone loves ‘Charge’ type superpowers, that give you a move and attack for your 1 action. Well Enforced Oblivion isn’t quite that as you don’t get a free attack after the move, but you do get 2 extra dice on your next attack and there are some cases this is even better. Anytime you need to do one giant attack, like killing Venom before he counter attacks back and heals, this becomes an incredible power to have.

Black Fury is a fantastic throw, letting you careen characters or terrain size 4 across the map. Intimidating Presence solidifies Black Dwarfs role as a tank, protecting your allies by forcing nearby enemies to attack him instead. Lastly, Invulnerable Skin is the icing on the tanky cake – reducing incoming damage by 1.

Infinity Gem: Space

The space gem costs 2pts and a slot on your roster, granting the gem bearing a place ability for the cost of 2 power. Also, don’t forget that Infinity Gems also give that character an additional power in the Power Up phase. I will say that at first, I thought this might be overpriced, for 2pts I can bring Black Widow or Rocket!  But on the flip side place effects in this game are a huge deal – so while I no longer think it is overpriced, you’ll want to make sure you have a specific plan in mind when taking this over a 2pt model. I can definitely see a character like Ebony Maw putting this to great use.

Tactics Cards

We also got to see 2 new Tactics cards related to the Black Order.

Mothership is a Black Order affiliated card that allows 2 Order members to pay power, then 1 of those members can teleport anywhere within range 1 of the other! This can be from anywhere on the board and when played correctly could seriously mess up your opponent’s plans. Very excited to see this card in action.

Ebony Maw gets his own card and it doesn’t disappoint! Shhh… has a huge radius of range 5 and can cancel any regular or reactive superpower for the cost of 3 power. Your opponent still pays the power cost and, in addition, can’t use the power for the rest of the turn! This card is going to lead to some serious games of chicken, with both sides of the table trying to figure out if and when this card will be played.

Wrap Up

We’re still waiting on Thanos himself to be revealed, but already the Black Order look incredibly fun to play. Don’t forget if you missed the other Black Order cards check them out here.
