Warhammer 40K: Imperial Game Changers
If you were Games Workshop and REALLY wanted to shake the Imperium up, how would you do it? Here are some thoughts.
We all have heard the news that GW is planning a big announcement for Warhammer 40,000 on the 23rd. We already did some wishlisting on things we’d like to see. But what if you were planning on something even bigger? What if you were GW and you REALLY wanted to shake things up and change the status quo? How would you do it? Here’s some ideas on how GW could change things for the Imperium.
Make Two Empires Officially
The Great Rift has already done this in physically and the non-Terra side already been dubbed Imperium Nihilus and has its own Lord Regent with Dante. But what if GW takes this a step further and really makes it so that there are TWO Imperiums? It might not be a straight-up Civil War situation but this could certainly lead to one.
Bring Back Another Loyalist Primarch
Guilliman has been shouldering the burden for long enough. How about some back-up with another Loyalist Primarch? Maybe this could be the thing that sparks a new Civil War? A clash of ideologies? A different Point of View on the state of the Imperium? There are some candidates floating around out there – bring back a loyalist Primarch and shake things up!
Kill The Emperor
No seriously. Games Workshop confirmed that the Emperor is a Perpetual. That means, if he is killed, he’d be reborn. You could make the case that he’s been dying for 10,000 years already. If the Emperor DOES come back, that would be one heck of a tectonic shift in the Grimdark universe! Just think of all the repercussions of that…the writers could have a field day.
Dark Mechanicus Uprising
Belisarius Cawl has been working on things in the background for a while. What if one of his experiments goes wrong? We’ve already got his creepy Abominable Intelligence floating around. What if Cawl Inferior decides to turn and manages to kick off a Dark Mechanicus uprising? Heck, even GW mentioned that it’s got his former mentor’s memories – and they turned on the Imperium! Sounds like a recipe for heresy to me…
A New Method Of Space Travel
Speaking of Cawl, he has been studying the Pharos and the Blackstone. What if the Imperium develops a new method of Space Travel – one that allows them safe passage and avoids the pitfalls of Warp Travel? For starters, that does make the Astronomican obsolete. Maybe not right away, but in the long run. That also means the Emperor doesn’t have to sit on the Golden Throne – again, that changes things further for the Imperium.
These are just random musing – but there are lots more ideas floating around out there that could change the Imperium completely. Time Jumps forward, new threats emerging, old threats coalescing, entirely new game changers…What would you like to see?
