Warhammer 40K: New Edition, New FAQs Coming
Game Workshop is prepping for the next edition of Warhammer 40,000 and there will be Day One FAQs coming.
After 8 editions of Warhammer 40,000 it seems like GW has this whole “New Edition Dance” down. They know you’ve got your codexes and armies already and are attempting to make the transition to the next stage as easy as possible. GW has announced new PDFs updates for your current codexes on day one!
“With a new edition of the game, some of the FAQs and errata that currently apply to the game and certain units will no longer be relevant. Thankfully, the Warhammer 40,000 rules team have been hard at work preparing updates to the existing documents, so when the new edition bursts onto the scene, you’ll also be able to download new PDFs to bring your books into line, so you’ll be good to go from day one!”
This is great news for everyone. If you’re a vet, you don’t need to torch your old books (or miniatures). You can still use all of them in the next edition. If you’re a new player, well, you can buy a current codex and jump right in. There is no reason to wait and see. Plus, we’re probably more than a few weeks off anyhow – so plenty of time to get your army ready to rock ahead of time.
A New App Approaches
New PDFs and FAQ updates aren’t the only thing coming. A New Warhammer 40,000 app is also on the way.
“When the new Warhammer 40,000 app launches, it will help you navigate the rules for your army, and when new codexes start to release, they will interact seamlessly with the app.”
So, if you’re a current player or a brand new initiate, you’re covered. Grab your codex, prepare your army, and keep an eye out for the Day One PDFs and FAQs for your forces!
This is like when the indexes came out – but better!
But Are New Codexes Coming?
The short answer is yes. We learned that from the Studio Q&A yesterday. However, we don’t have a timeline on that so it could be months (or longer) before your army gets a new book. Furthermore all the current codexes plus their Psychic Awakening rules are still going to be valid. And the OTHER supplemental books, too. So if you have all those, keep them. If you don’t, that’s okay for now as you can still pick-up a codex and use that in the meantime.
The next codexes were described as “Greatest Hits Albums” for the armies. GW is going to take the best stuff and collate it into these new codexes – on top of all of the lore and extras. Those won’t be coming out day one. That’s what the PDFs will be for.
Here’s hoping for a smooth transition to the next edition!
