The Doctor is in! Goatboy here to talk about Fabius Bile’s new rules, and how to use the CSM’s newest faction.

I got myself a new Fabius Bile model to paint up.  I played this guy a lot back in the day.  There was something about upgrading some Chaos Space Marines, getting some crazy nutters, and jumping out of Rhinos charge in back in the day.  Now he is kinda the same and even has his own army of monsters to play with.  I don’t know if it is any good – but it could be fun.  It is really hard to say as he obviously got updated Rules and points in Psychic Awakening but who knows if he stays the same in 9th.  Most likely not – but hey it’s something to think about.

Creations of Bile

The update gives him a new “legion” to play with that while basically a renegade legion isn’t a renegade legion.  They can use Veterans of the Long War which is an odd thing while the others can’t.  That is a good thing as their legion trait isn’t terrible.  Plus 1 to their Strength and Movement is pretty baller and when mixed with Fabius’s ability to upgrade a unit a turn you could have something interesting.  It’s this idea that has me thinking there could be a fun army full of Possessed to go do the creepy doctors bidding.  I wonder if utilizing a few waves of Possessed to try and get into combat as quickly as you can would be good.  Mix in a small bit of Daemons to get some extra Advance and charge options or maybe try to use some powerful aura interactions.  Or just go all Slaanesh, throw some Feel No Pain on them as needed, and get stuck in.

“Doc, I’m all about experimentation.”

His army fits in a weird area right now in the game as it feels geared up for 9th.  If the terrain set up is true and the shift in Overwatch is as big a deal as I think it will we could see something useful.  I know the current Possessed bombs are kinda kept at bay due to the Grey Knights – but all this chatter might not mean anything in reality – no one is truly playing 8th other than biding their time for 9th and just trying to have some fun during the global lockdown.  Either way I just want that new boxed set, push fit some models, and find some time to paint something new and exciting.

“When a doctor does go wrong he is the first of criminals. He has nerve and he has knowledge.”

The Good Doctor’s Rules

But let’s go with the good on the update.  I really like they gave Fabius Bile something to do.  It isn’t amazing but his army as full of his genetic monsters and traitors that don’t know he is kind of a jerk.  The perfect evil scientist of doom – almost like Mr. Sinister from the Xmen.  He somehow always escapes, causes all kinds of problems, and is just a butt to deal with.  With that in mind this update does that.  I really wish we had more relics as it feels like he loves screwing over other Chaos folk in his quest to get all up in that primarch nonsense.

The Stratagems are ok – there is nothing extremely broken and the only sore spot I have is the fact I can’t upgrade more characters with some Bile concoction.  The mutations to cause opponents some issues are neat and I always like having an Advance and charge option available.  I always like those strats that you can activate as a response to your opponent as it gives you a lot more control to change the ebb and flow of the game as you respond to different things.

Sadly there isn’t a ton more with this.  There isn’t a crazy unit of Primaris Marines you could build and create.  There are not “better” unit of Bile Possessed or something like it.  There is just Bile and his buddy who go around stabbing things, stealing Geneseed, and look like creepy monsters from a Rob Zombie movie.

With that – will spit out a quick list that might still be viable.  Probably not but hey – who knows what points will come in the new edition.

Spider Tactics

This is just a thought for a list that just has a ton of bodies, some Obliterators to kill stuff and Possessed that can take up a ton of the table space.  Will this list work?  It covers the table, has some guns in the obits, and can be a pain.  Throw the Fabius upgrade on each of the Possessed and watch as they run up, get moving, and hopefully get too killing.  If not the Oblits will just murder stuff as needed.  Once I paint Bile up I even have this list ready to play.

~”If a man dedicates his life to good deeds and the welfare of others, he will die unthanked and unremembered. If he exercises his genius bringing misery and death to billions, his name will echo down through the millennia for a hundred lifetimes. Infamy is always more preferable to ignominy.” ~Fabius Bile
