Have you been wondering what the models from the Launch Box will look like in over color schemes? Games Workshop has you covered.

I’m not an Ultramarine Player. So when I see new Space Marines painted up like Ultramarines, I’m glad to see new models, but I’m not quite as excited as when I see new Blood Angel models. I have a feeling I’m not alone in this. The same could go for any faction or army for that matter. The new Necrons models are really cool and the paint job is impressive – but what about the “old school” grey metal look? Well, Games Workshop has released some of the new models painted up in some familiar colors and my hype level just jumped up a few notches.

Here we have a Bladeguard Veteran painted up in the Blood Angel’s colors. Man, I was already wanting to get ahold of the boxed set, but as a Blood Angel player and collector, this just made me take a step back and say “Yep. I have to get those models now.” It’s one thing to imagine your color scheme on a model, but it’s another to see it painted up. It’s absolutely the paint job that sells it. The ‘Eavy Metal Team know exactly what they are doing!

Not to be out done, here’s an Iron Hands version. Now, I personally think this is a cheap plot to entice all those bandwagoners who started playing Iron Hands because of their bonkers rules. But surely that’s just the jaded cynical player in me talking, right? To be fair, this paint scheme does look really sharp! I like the weathering on the model and the “spark” on the power sword is a nice touch.

It’s an interesting choice to paint up the new Primaris Bladeguard as a Chaos Marine. I guess now that Adeptus Custodes are able to declare Primaris Marines Heretics, then it makes sense that some Primaris would go traitor. You can see all the scrapes and dings – it’s an excellent paint job. It would be right at home in the Death Guard. What’s that? It’s a Deathwing member from the Dark Angels? Yeah. I know. I know.

What about the Necrons?! Well, GW didn’t leave them out. First up, let’s see their classic scheme!

It’s the good ol’ Sautekh Dynasty. That iconic grey metal with the neon green is the image that gets conjured up when I think of Necrons. I’m really digging the new models painted up in this classic manner. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get a bit more experimental.

Maybe you want to add some color with the Zathanor Dynasty. You still have the classic grey metal, but now we’ve got teal neon for the weapon and purple for the shoulder pads. It’s just a bit of flair to spice things up.

Here is a Necron Warrior from the Tsarakura Dynasty! This one goes WAAAY off the grid with the color combo and it manages to still work. If nothing else, it’s a good indicator of what you can do with some imagination and experimentation. Don’t like the classics, then get crazy with your own custom scheme!

I can’t wait to see what else the community does with these models. I’d like to see some Space Wolves and Imperial Fists! And where My Nihilakh Dynasty at!?
