40K: Squats Have Been Sighted by Adeptus Mechanicus
Psychic Awakening Pariah has a most shocking sighting by the Adeptus Mechanicus. Do you think it means what I think it means?
The last Psychic Awakening book is full of interesting chunks of lore–fragments caught from massive warp storms, scattered reports of interesting happenings around the galaxy. We all know GW loves to plant easter eggs along their narrative paths.
There are a few transmissions that seem ominous, like a bunch of Chaos chants heralding nothing good, or one message from Sergeant Harker about something unknown and metallic stalking through the jungles of his latest warzone. But some of these fragments hint at things to come. Take a look at this story of an Adeptus Mechanicus ship coming under attack by something seemingly impossible.
The Communication Fragment
Echoes of the Past
So this appears to be an Adeptus Mechanicus ship traveling near the galactic core. It comes under attack from a weaponized gravitational field. It encounters a vessel the field is coming from. The ship’s hull marking match something that official records say is extinct. The vessel belongs to… the “Squa…”
About those Squats
So you will remember some facts about the Squats.
They are not entirely extinct, as some are on Necromunda. So perhaps “officially” the race is still around here and there as individuals, rather than as grand culture, or empire of Strongholds.
The Squat Homeworlds were located around… the galactic core, and their worlds are noted as having very strong… gravitational forces.
Alternative Theories
Now we don’t have that critical last “T” in the quote up there. So it’s not 100% guaranteed Squats. We passed this around the office and Abe came up with a couple of perfectly reasonable explanations:
“Squash People” – A dread race of xenos sentient squash. Hey the galaxy is a big place. Better call the Deathwatch to investigate.
“Square Marines” – Clearly one of the 2 missing Legions, whose sigil is a square. (white square for loyalist, black square for Chaos Square Marines)
