AoS: Did You Know Ossiarch Bonereapers Have More Than Petrifex?
RIP Petrifex. But, here’s a little reminder that five more factions exist in the Ossiarch Bonereapers, so all is not lost.
With the nerf to Petrifex Elite, some Ossiarch players are feeling a little down in the Shyishian dumps. I myself found a little bit of dissatisfaction with my bone boyes, even though the nerf wasn’t THAT bad, it still kind of hurt. But then I remembered; there’s 5 other really awesome subfactions the OBR can choose from. That said, here’s some quick thoughts on those factions and what sort of playstyle they might lend themselves to.
Mortis Praetorians
The legion of the Big Bone Bruiser himself, this is the army to play if you want to get the most out of Katakros. They have Bravery shenanigans, they’re great on the defense, and they can hit like a truck given the right circumstance. Their unique artefact can make a sub-par caster hero into a monster, or a Liege into an unstoppable juggernaut. Combined with the added effect of Katakros’s command ability, this can be an extremely powerful faction that can rival even the hold Petrifex. You just need to be willing to invest in the rather pricey (points and dollars) Katakros.
Stalliarch Lords
The speedy mcspeed demons of the Death faction, the Stalliarch lords are all about getting to combat fast. They can run and charge, retreat and charge, and their lord can deal excruciating damage on the charge. Combine them with them with the Kavalos Lance and you’ll have a murder-truck 5 miles long that can run over just about anything you point them at. You might not have the highest model count ever, but I promise you every model WILL count, and you’ll get a lot of punch for not too much investment.
Ivory Host
These are the guys from Ghur, and they take the beast theme to a brand new level of power. If you hurt them or their friends, they get angry and hit harder at the cost of their own safety. If you have the points to spare, you can keep them safe from that save penalty while still keeping the angry hit bonus. Your general can get really scary, getting an additional attack with their artefact and possibly another extra attack every turn that lasts until the end of game! A Liege, with perfect rolls, could end turn 3 with 7 attacks on its blade that hit on 2s. If you like weight of attacks, bring these guys and some Necropolis Stalkers and win.
Null Myriad
For his service over the years, Nagash gave Arkhan his own shiny new army to go out and play. The Null Myriad are great against magic, and their artefact is one of the most powerful in the book. They can ignore spells, their general drains the Bravery and hits of their enemies, and they get all of the benefits of bringing Arkhan along (not that you need him to run the army). The Null Myriad are the way to go against Tzeentch or Sacrosanct, and can hold their own against the spooky spell power of Seraphon as well.
Crematorians
When you absolutely, positively need an army removed today, this is the Host with the most. Whenever one of these guys die, they explode into mortal wounds, and they can ignore cover saves when attacking with a command ability. The artefact they bring boosts the damage of their weapon, and whatever you point them at, they’ll either kill, or they’ll die and take them with them. All in all, this is the army to play if you want to cackle maniacally while removing your own models.
What subfaction do you like best?
