Warhammer 40K: ‘The App’ Is On The Way
Games Workshop is releasing some new info on the 40k App. What does it do? Let’s find out!
A new “Digital Companion” is coming for 40k players as a new 40k App is in the works. Today, we’re getting a first look at some of the features and it’s sounds promising.
Right off the bat we can see that there will be a free version and also a subscriber version. What’s the cost of the subscriber version? £3.99. This is sounding a lot like the AoS Azyr App, isn’t it?! Subscribers get some extras and you’ll even get access to all the points and rules for armies from day one.
So let’s talk features. The basic version of the app will allow for Core Rule Access and you’ll also get to access “codexes and supplements with codes” – but what does that mean? Exactly what it sounds like. When the new codexes are released, the print versions will have a code which you’ll be able to use to access that books rules. Nifty, right?
Here’s what GW has said:
Codexes – Future-proofed and Backward Compatible
“As a bonus for subscribers, the rules from every current in-print codex and supplement will be included in the app from day one. This is the ultimate repository of Warhammer 40,000 rules – your points, your Relics, Stratagems, datasheets… everything. All in one place.
There’s never been a better resource anywhere for people who play Warhammer 40,000.
This is future-proof too: as new codexes are released, older ones will be removed and can be replaced using the code you get when you buy the new print version. All future rules updates, including errata, will be reflected in the app as well, so you’ll always be up to date.”
That’s not all – there will also be an army builder in the app, too! Say hello to Battle Forge.
“This is THE most requested feature for any Warhammer 40,000 app. Battle Forge will allow subscribers to use the app to build and verify Battle-forged army lists. Whether putting together a Combat Patrol for a quick lunchtime game with a friend or crafting a Strike Force that will dominate battlefields at your next tournament, you’ll be able to do it all in the app and check that it’s valid and legal. And, of course, you’ll be able to use the app to keep track of your rules while you play, so you can leave the books at home!”
Yep. That’s right. An army builder with the rules inside and it validates the build, too. It’s about time…
The 40k App will be launching in a few weeks (probably on the 25th when the new edition launches). So get ready for the Grimdark at your fingertips!
The Grimdark finally joins the 21st century! Wait a minute…
