Geekery: ‘The Boys’ – Butcher Gets His Own Short Film that Fills in the Gaps
Catch up with Butcher’s story between seasons one and two before catching tonight’s episode.
Billy is on the run after having the killing of Vought Vice President Madelyn Stillwell pinned on him. After having a close call with law enforcement he seeks out a friend to help him track down his wife. As with a lot of things in this show, things do not go well and they get bloody.

Showrunner Eric Kripke filmed this as part of the series – they had a whole storyline that covered Butcher’s movements between the parking lot and showing back up at the crew’s hideout planned for episode two that got cut. Kripke and the writers thought it removed too much mystery about the character’s arc. According to interviews the showrunner did with EW and Collider:
“… but it ultimately didn’t end up fitting that well into the episode because it made Butcher’s story a lot less mysterious and intriguing, and it slowed down the rhythm.”
“It’s not really spoiling anything to say that as season two begins Butcher is MIA and then shows up, and in episode two we originally had shot something that really revealed where he went and what his experiences were. But it ultimately didn’t end up fitting that well into the episode because it made Butcher’s story a lot less mysterious and intriguing and it kind of slowed down the rhythm a little bit, it was better to not know in that particular episode.”
New episodes of The Boys show up on Amason Prime ever Friday – they dropped three episodes last week, so you have several hours to binge this weekend if you’re not caught up.
