Geekery: The First Ever Horror Movie for Cats
The folks the make Temptations cat treats know what cats are really terrified of.
Follow this chunky orange tabby as he plays with a ball of string unknowingly through some great horror tropes (and nods to movies like The Shining) and into his worst nightmare… that happens to be pretty good in a gin and tonic.
Animal behaviorist, Con Slobodchikoff, explains the phenomenon and why you should just stick to laughing at existing videos on the internet instead of surprising and scaring your furry friend with produce:
“Cats are genetically hard-wired through instinct to avoid snakes. Cucumbers look enough like a snake to have the cat’s instinctive fear of snakes kick in. If a cat sees something slithering over the ground, the cat often will jump a couple of feet up in the air, a behavior that prevents getting bitten by a snake. Anything that looks like a snake should produce the instinctive fear response… Anytime you scare an animal, you risk inflicting psychological damage, so that the animal will be afraid not only of cucumbers,” Slobchikoff said, “but also the surroundings in which the cucumber was presented to the animal.”
