Star Wars: The Galaxy’s Sassiest Droids
The galaxy is full of ridiculous, opinionated, poorly behaved droids who will just as soon follow your directions as give you an earful of back-sass.
And those sassy, trouble starting droids are always my favorites.
R2-D2 and C-3PO
Hey, Meaghan, this isn’t one droid. It’s two! I know, and there will be another duo on this list so get comfortable with that. On their own, R2 and 3P0 are pretty darn sassy. R2 is two and a half feet of “fight me” at all times and 3P0’s brand of attitude is so understated and faux polite. But together they are the quintessential bickering old married couple.
Chopper (C1-10P)
Chopper first appears in Rebels as Hera’s loyal droid companion and makes a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in Rogue One. And Chopper can best be described as the Untitled Goose of the Star Wars universe. He is here to create problems for seemingly (and sometimes actually) no reason and only seems to respect Hera. He’s one of those droids who communicate only in a series of beeps, but you know that some of those beeps mean “F You.”
BT-1 and 0-0-0
Where Chopper wants to cause some trouble, Bee Tee and Trip want to commit some murders. Appearing as Doctor Aphra’s only technically loyal traveling companions they are the sort of characters who you would need to be careful about phrasing near because if there’s a loophole that would allow them to go absolutely bonkers, they’d probably take it. That said, they’re hilarious in that weird macabre way and their Kotobukiya figures were a first-stop at Celebration ’17 for me.
K2SO
K2 was always going to be on this list – Cassian said I had to. His brand of sass is so dry and maybe a little mean in a way that makes him feel so human and real. Every time I re-watch Rogue One he sounds like a tired old guy who’s been in the fight too long, and I’m not sure if he’s reflecting Cassian or if he was programmed that way, but either way I love him.
Who’s your favorite sassy droid? Who is your favorite droid in general? Is there anyone you think is missing from my list? Let us know in the comments!
