Aeronautica Imperialis’ new book sure has a lot of ground assets for a book that’s all about a specific ‘air war’.

Let it never be said that the Taros Air War book isn’t equal opportunity. Included in the new book, you’ll find rules for running a variety of ground assets to beef up both the Astra Militarum and T’au Air Caste forces. Let’s leave aside the irony of the T’au Air Caste getting a bunch of new ground based weapons and instead take a look at a little of what they can do.

The Astra Militarum is all about big guns in large numbers being operated by the biggest number of troops they can possibly find. Are they the best trained? Not by a longshot. Are they equipped with the best technology? Not even a little. But they do have a lot of it.

Guns like the Hydra Flak Battery, which has probably been used for the last thousand-or-so years, if the bombed out terrain kits we’ve seen are anything to go by. Running one of these will cost you 8 points, making the cheap enough to scatter across your playing field, and with a close-range Firepower of 6, they can pack a decent punch if you want to deny an area.

The there’s the Basilisk Anti-Aircraft Emplacement, which deals extra damage on a solid hit, and is capable of punching through tough armor if you can manage to get en-massed fire.

You also get a new “refueling station” to mark objectives.

The T’au Air Caste, on the other hand, supplement their firepower with more advanced technology. Skyfire Platforms work in conjunction with aerial markerlight drones to ensure that their burst cannon arrays are targeted with precision.

But if you really want to hit hard, the Stormfury Platform brings the T’au’s signature railgun weaponry to the skies above your battlefield. And of course, there’s a T’au objective marker too, in the form of a comms tower.

All this should be available soon.
