Age of Sigmar: Warcry – New Books & New Quests Await
Games Workshop showcases what’s coming to pre-order this weekend for Warcry. Gather your Warband – it’s questing time!
We already got a look at what’s coming to pre-order this weekend. Now, we’re getting a look inside the covers of the latest books for Warcry! Five new tomes are coming – 4 for the various Grand Alliances and the Tome of Champions 2020 edition. What will each book bring? Lots of new goodies for all your Warcry warband needs.
Have you ever wanted to run an Ossiarch Bonereapers Warband or Cities of Sigmar warband in Warcry? Well now you can – as well as 37 more warbands:
“That’s where the new Grand Alliance books – Sentinels of Order, Harbingers of Destruction, Bringers of Death, and Agents of Chaos – come in. First and foremost, they include the rules for a total of 39 different warbands between them, divided into the Grand Alliances from which they hail.”
And incase you were wondering it’s not just a grand total of 39 new warbands – it’s also all the things you’ll need rules wise to run them!
“Each book also includes background tables, several fated quests, and challenge battles for that Grand Alliance’s warbands to fight in, enabling you to take each of them on a journey befitting their nature. If you like to immerse yourself in the narrative while playing, then you’ll have all the supporting rules content to do exactly that!”
I’ve often wondered why a Stormcast Warband would wander into the Eightpoints to fight “Warcry Style” – maybe it is to undermine Archaon’s plans. Or maybe it’s just a suicide mission (not really that scary when you can be reforged if you do fall). whatever the case, I’m sure that all that info will be revealed in the their respective book.
Tome of Champions 2020
What about the big book? The Tome of Champions? Well, just as before, this is “the big one” for Warcry with loads of new content to try out for the game. Here’s a few of the highlights from GW:
- Rules Updates: Including a rebalancing of the glory points system as well as updates to reinforcements and the use of Consumable items.
- Expanded Rules for Open Play: Rules for Triumph & Treachery Pit Fights – multiplayer games for 3-6 players controlling up to three fighters each.
- Expanded Rules for Narrative Play: Detailed background on Soroth Kor, The Silent City, and rules for playing a campaign within its long-abandoned streets. It also includes new narrative battleplans, fated quests,* and a Trial of Champions campaign that any warband can take part in.
- Expanded Rules for Matched Play: Six new battleplans for the 2020/2021 season that complement those found in the Tome of Champions 2019, including hidden agendas and rules for running escalation tournaments.
And yes, there is more! Want to fight a Mega-Gargant? There’s rules for that! I can’t wait to see what other crazy scenarios and options GW has planned within the Tome of Champions 2020. It’s already sounding like a nice refresher to Warcry. Couple that with the Catacombs expansion and it’s going to feel like a brand new game.
Catacombs + Tome of Champions 2020 would make quite the gift bundle for fans of Warcry…Just tossing that out there.
