Star Wars: X-Wing has a new points update and Hyperspace Rotation out right now!

Fantasy Flight Games is passing the lightsaber over to Atomic Mass Games, but they are still applying some rules updates and points adjustments as the transition happens. Let’s take a quick look at their announcement.

X-Wing Points Lists Update (scroll down to Support Section, choose your faction)

“We have been planning for some time to move the January update to November, despite the events that originally precipitated this change not occurring this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to proceed with that update in November instead of waiting until January. There will not be an additional scheduled points update in January.

With the highly dominant Nantex-class Starfighter already increased in price in the October unscheduled update, the metagame is already more uncertain and dynamic than it might usually be during one of the twice-yearly scheduled updates. As such, from the perspective of points changes, this update is fairly mild in effect, meant to help empower some iconic but underperforming ships and slightly reduce the effectiveness of some staple ships and upgrades.”

So what kind of points shifts are we looking at? Well the T-65 and T-70 X-Wings have gotten a points decrease. The TIE/ln also got a drop. Many of the “iconinc Republic vessels” have also gotten a points decrease including every instance of “Odd Ball.” So that’s something!

On the flip side, points increases were a tad more rare for this update. The ” high-initiative RZ-2 A-wings, Commander Malarus (Xi-class Shuttle), and the Kashyyyk Defender” in particular all got points bumps. These increases aren’t designed to boot them from competative play, just designed to force players to make some harder choices when including them.

There are also a few other ships that got changes to their upgrade slots. Mentioned in the FFG article, the Fang Fighter is finally getting a Modification slot (except for Fenn Rau). And Boba Fett is losing his crew slot in exchange for another Modification slot. Hey – he likes to work alone!

Hyperspace Changes

“Restrictions breed creativity, and Hyperspace for the first portion of 2021 will be set around a specific restriction: all ships available in 2nd Edition products will be legal, but some ships will have only their generic pilots while other ships will have only their limited pilots. This means that staple pilots will often be unavailable, and players will have to find new ways to structure their lists.”

That’s not all – Upgrades will only be allowed from a curated list that is designed to “give each faction a thematic but limited set of options.” Furthermore, “Ships from products released during this Hyperspace season will either have all of their limited or all of their generic pilots become Hyperspace legal” but there will probably be an exception to include the Hyperspace Ring which seems kind of fitting.

I’d be curious to take a look at those changes and the list in particular. Whatever the case, this will shake-up the meta for Star Wars: X-Wing in 2021 – and that’s the point.

What do you think of these changes and the points updates?
