The Insider – January 15th – Prime
Welcome to this week’s BoLS Prime Insider. Let’s talk industry whispers, what’s coming in the week ahead, and a look behind the scenes of the studio.
Welcome back to this week’s Insider. This will be an ongoing weekly column where you get a behind the scenes look into the BoLS office, what our core team is up to, and working on, as well as what we are hearing in the industry. Our promise to Prime members was to give you greater insight into what we are up to, excited about, and what we are seeing and hearing out there in the industry.
Remember you can always hop into the DISCORD channel and directly chat any of us up or ask questions. So enjoy and don’t be a stranger. On with the show.

New items at last from Games Workshop!
Death Guard & Drukhari
Death Guard are here. We got a set of the launch products in the studio and will be going over them in detail starting this weekend. Look for an all new improved and up-powered Death Guard army to be hitting the tabletop. It got a fairly light set of new minis; only the Lord of Virulence and the Nurgle terrain piece. Still not bad for a faction that is all 3 years old and new plastic. Other factions like custodes and Harlequins have gotten a lot less over a longer period of time.
The Beginning of Normality
Things out there in the world are still at a critical level, but with vaccines rolling out globally, there is light at the end of the tunnel. GW did again have allocation limits for stores with the Death Guard, but the good news is the levels are much higher than we saw in November. This is a sign that GW is righting the ship and has been ramping up production over the December downtime. The Death Guard codexes for example are readily available in large numbers. Fingers crossed that we will see GW return to weekly releases sooner than later.
Retailers are still barely holding on, so if you can throw some cash at local game stores, they REALLY need it. But the days ahead do look better than the last two months.
I expect Drukhari, Dark Angels, and Hedonites to show up by end of February.

Whew! Welcome to 2021. I’m kicking off the new year with some old(er) model projects. I’m hopeful that one day this year we’ll be able to play in stores – so I’ve decided to tackle some hobby projects I kind of left standing. With that said, I’m looking at my Ossiarch Bonereapers, specifically the Immortis Guard! I only got one game in with this unit before everything went under lockdown and I hadn’t gotten a lot of paint on them.
This was from the before times…
Well, that changed this week. I decided to finish them. I got pretty much everything knocked out then discovered I was out of texture paint for the base. Oops. That’s okay, just a reason to head to my FLGS and support the local scene. Anyhow, I’ll hopefully have a finished photo for them next week. The Necropolis Stalker is there as a guide for the finished version.’

It has been a pretty exciting week here in the RPG corner of the world. With a new book coming–and one promising a ton of mysteries–I’m excited to see how D&D approaches a “mystery.” It’s interesting, because D&D isn’t exactly made to run mysteries, but here we are just the same, and with a wide berth of approaches too. Everything all ties back to Candlekeep, so there’s a common thread. But what really makes it interesting to me is having some guidance for what the folks at WotC think a mystery should look like.
Here’s hoping it doesn’t end up being like Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, which ended up being more Dragon than Heist.

The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix is fantastic and you should watch it. Netflix is one of the few that’s consistently dropping new titles right now – a few you should add to your watch list:
- Mank
- Lupin
- Criminal: United Kingdom
- Alice in Borderland
- History of Swear Words
- Canvas
And a quick update on office construction with some very rare Texas snow. The reinforcement for the foundation is complete and the main lines for plumbing are in. We’re

Do you ever miss Battlefleet Gothic? I do. Sometimes I’ll just be out, enjoying myself with friends (or this year, at home enjoying myself alone) and it will just kind of hit me. Gothic is gone, its no longer supported and I can’t find a group to play it anywhere. That sadness will just creep up on me and over take me. A wistful feeling, one of loss, and pain and remembered joy. If you catch me just staring up into the stars at night, there is 50% chance I’m thinking about BFG.
Gothic was just a great, if complex game. And yeah I know there is the video game, and I’ve played it, its pretty good. Lots of fun, but not the same. And yeah, I know you can still play it with the old rules (or updated fan rules). But that’s also just not the same. I dunno,I just miss it. Not as much as I miss WFB…

I took a break these past 2 weeks to just – recharge. I finally got back on the stream, threw some paint on Mortarion, and got him knocked out. Pics on my Instagram coming soon as I get his wings glued on and tweak some stuff. The rest of this week will be knocking out some Death Guard will working on a Space Wolf commission. Once that is done it is onto a small bit of Emperor’s Children and some other smaller commissions too. I did get a drawing done so figure would show that down below for those to see. Until next time!
