There is a new mobile game coming soon for iOS and Android – say hello to Warhammer 40,000: Lost Crusade.

It looks like the Games Workshop game license machine is at it again. This time we have a new mobile game coming to a mobile device near you – it’s Warhammer 40,000: Lost Crusade. And the Story Trailer sure looks pretty:

via Warhammer Community

“Take on the role of a Primaris Space Marine fleet commander whose ship has been separated from the Indomitus Crusade and weakened after an emergency warp jump. Stranded in a distant sector of the galaxy, you must repair and expand your base, gather resources, and conduct research to aid in the development of a powerful army capable of waging war on all of your enemies.

Join intense real-time PvE combat, full 3D assaults, or take part in PvP space battles in a shared galaxy with up to 35,000 other players on a single map. Train and upgrade your units to gain a crucial edge in the battle against Chaos as you fight to defend the Imperium from eldritch threats.”

There is currently an open beta test running for select territories. Those include: United Kingdom, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Russia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Australia, Thailand, and Indonesia. If you’re in the USA, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Unfortunately, if you’re in the USA, their website for www.lostcrusade.com is also not much help either. As of writing, this is all we are getting:

Hmm…so you’re telling me an event is coming!

However, this is the internet and while the trailer is mighty pretty, I wanted to know what type of game we’ve got here. Honestly, it looks kind of like a very light Dawn of War II. There are basically a couple screens you’re going to hang out in. There’s the map screen where you’re going to select your mission. There is the base/home screen where you can upgrade places and recruit units, etc. And then there is the actual game combat which consists of your hero characters leading the charge as you drop in different units to support them and take out the enemy.

The game has been in development for a couple years as there are older gameplay videos from back in 2019 that I found. However, those graphics were less polished and it looks like the game has definitely gotten more attention since then. If you’re interested, there were a few more game play videos out there that are more recent. Here’s one that has a pretty good chunk of gameplay to chew on.

Keep in mind this is footage from the beta so it’s subject to change. Overall, it does look like a mobile game with newer 40k elements skinned on top of it. If you’re a fan of this type of gameplay and a 40k player, this is right up your alley.

One thing that does have me a tad confused about is the Multiplayer portion of the game. I didn’t notice any actual PvP happening – perhaps it wasn’t enabled in the gameplay video or maybe they weren’t at the right level for it yet. I would be interested to see how that part of the game plays out. If we’re all playing a Space Marines are these just training skirmishes or what? And if it’s 35,000 players, and we’re all Space Marines, then doesn’t that mean there are more than a few Space Marine chapters in this sector…

Suspending my disbelief (it’s a mobile game here), it at least looks interesting enough to poke at when it does launch. We’ll see if this is a F2P game or if you’ll have to pay for it. My guess is that it’s going to be F2P with microtransactions. Welcome to mobile gaming in 2021.
