Games Workshop is introducing a new Campaign and Space Marine Chapter in the upcoming White Dwarf. Get ready for the Emperor’s Spears.

Everyone loves the idea of a good ol’ fashioned campaign and the January White Dwarf does not disappoint in that regard. A Flashpoint is a new type of article that focuses in on a specific area or campaign and provides some structure to actually play a particular Campaign. This is perfect for gaming groups or leagues or even for a store that wants to run the campaign for their players – and the White Dwarf has everything you need to do just that.

The Charadon Campaign

“Each Flashpoint will home in on a campaign being fought at a specific time and place, offering expansive lore and new rules that enable you to re-enact the key engagements of the conflict.”

We’re not going to get into all the lore bits about this system – as most of that will be in the White Dwarf article and was absent in the post from Warhammer Community. However, we do know that the Charadon Sector “has been a hotbed of conflict for millennia. Its worlds plagued by Orks, Aeldari piraters and insidious cults to the Dark Gods. In the wake of the Noctis Aeterna, the Charadon Sectorand the nearby Forge World of Metalica came under relentless attack“. So we have a whole lot potential xenos vs Ad-Mech action with a lot of Death Guard thrown in for flavoring. I would assume there is a good chance of the Chapter below being heavily involved.

Index Astartes: The Emperor’s Spears

The issue also brings us another Index Astartes on  The Emperor’s Spears, following up on the excellent Tome Keepers article. Here are the basics we know about them:

“The Emperor’s Spears are believed to have come from the 25th Founding, also known as the Bastion Founding, in the latter half of M40. The first known appearance of the Chapter was in 594.M40, making them relatively young by the standards of Space Marine Chapters.

Even in their relatively short history, the Emperor’s Spears have clashed with their fellow Space Marines, notably the Aurora Chapter during the Eukari Insurrection. So vicious was the conflict that the Ultramarines sent representatives to quell it, ruling that the Emperor’s Spears had acted rashly and were to blame for the violence. It is only in recent years that High King Arucatas the Swordbearer has eased the tensions that exist between the Emperor’s Spears and Ultramarines.

Since the opening of the Great Rift, the Emperor’s Spears have been beset by new dangers. The Rift is visible from Nemeton, and its influence has been felt across the Elara’s Veil region. Hard pressed by constant war and isolation following the loss of their fellow Chapters, the Emperor’s Spears now stand upon the brink of destruction, and it remains to be seen how its future will unfold.”
