Goatboy’s Warhammer 40k: The Unbeatable List – LVNopen
Goatboy here with the lists that made it to the top of the Las Vegas Nopen.
Let’s talk about the LVNopen – a streamer run event to help keep us competitive players busy as we missed one of our marquee events of the year. As you know I helped a little with it by drawing up a new logo to help keep the LVO feeling with bright neon colors and the been at home too long Elvis Marine. Overall I think it did a great job to help generate a lot of interest in competitive 40k, showcased a lot of fun talent throwing down with different armies, and a pretty interesting spread of lists. I want to talk a bit about the lists I like the most and how we can look at these types of armies for our future games when events start to run as the vaccines roll out.
The Unbeatable List – Custodes & Sisters
The overall winning army was a pretty interesting build and I feel it resembles what I used to call a Jank or 5Color good stuff build in the magic world. It was a pretty slick build as it was set up to utilize both aspects of its army and overall 9th edition play style to make a pretty powerful army.

List Thoughts
To give you an idea on how it played – you had an extremely tough center unit that could take the brunt of an opponents assault output, survive, and score you updated “While we Stand, we fight” points. This wall of death would hit the middle, hold it and if you tried to move it – well you got a bunch of giant Chainsaw ladies of death coming in to wipe the floor with you. The entire idea of the Sisters Detachment is there with units that trade for so much more than their point costs says they should. Look at how this list is built and think of how other armies can utilize this play style as it is effective. It has proficient secondary choices, can score the primary, and will always have something till the end of the game.
List #2 Word Bearers & Slaanesh
The next list I liked a lot as it is something I have thought about handily won the first game but ran into the perfect blade to take it out of action. This is one of those “fluffy” lists that can work so well and something you can expect to see as it doesn’t have as many bad match ups as you would think. It is fast, aggressive, and plays the assault game as an overwhelming wave of gibbering tentacles. Just imagine this with the updated Possessed profile from Death Guard with this CSM book.

List Thoughts
I have thought about 60 possessed for so long and love the idea of using Word Bearers as your main Legion choice. I am hoping CSM get updated to make this a true legit pain in the butt to play against as while I love it I want it to do a bit more. Heck – the new Hedionites could make for some sweet looking Possessed eh?
List #3 Bash Brothers
Finally will go over the other Chaos list by TJ. This list is a return of the Bash Brothers and something I was writing up before he posted his list. I think it’s pretty good but it is not an easy list to play. There are so many layers of how to get the most damage out of your big bashers as well as keep them protected. TJ won his first game but the list moving to another player who was not familiar saw Magnus go down too easily and the rest of the army fold. Look at this list and expect a few Chaos Players to play it, win a lot, and frustrate other players who are not nearly as good at throwing the big boys around.

List Thoughts
This army has me thinking whenever we get the Daemon Codex update – we might get a really crazy book. It is just something I feel as the last codex wasn’t bad – just didn’t have any true direction as while the mono god stuff was ok (Slaanesh seemed to be the strong one for Mono god – but that was due to how it interacts with other stuff) it just didn’t feel up to what the other books we have seen. But with this push from GW for Mono army builds we could see something crazy come out.
Those are the 3 lists I like from the LVNopen. I thought the GK Purifier army was neat as well as some of the Ork stuff. It felt like the Orks hit armies that were designed to wreck them a bit. The good stuff Imperium armies are gonna show up as while the Marines like to be alone – almost all of them could use some Custodes help. Heck, an old Dark Eldar did well so will see if the new book will show up and shift how the army plays. Heck – why can’t they just make Vect for Sean.
