Age of Sigmar: Lumineth Realm-Lords Starshard Ballistas
The Ballista are back! Check out the new Starshard Ballistas of the Lumineth Realm-lords.
The return of this unit is a direct nod to the previous World-that-was and we’re super glad to see them back. The Lumineth have a new toy to launch bolts down range – you could even say it throws them. Let’s take a closer look at the Starshard Ballistas:
While these Ballistas don’t have a great save, ideally, they should be far enough back that they aren’t taking a ton of return fire. They have a 3o” range shot afterall! And it’s actually 2 shots that hit and wound on 3+ with rend -2 and D3 damage. But is it really? Keep reading.
Blinding Bolts are a special shot that allows you to upgrade a shot to also cause a target unit to be dazzled. This causes a -1 to hit. Not bad when you consider the range.
Messenger Hawk is another ability that allows for you to get +1 to hit rolls that target an enemy unit that is within 24″ of the Ballista and a Realm-lords Hero. The ranges really should be too much of a deterrent to pulling this off.
Warding Lanterns pull a double duty for this unit. Not only do they provide a way to negate wounds and/or mortal wounds on a 6, they also allow you to add 1 to the shooting profile if the Ballista doesn’t move this turn! Now we’re looking at 3 shots per Ballista – not bad at all!
Vanari Starshard Ballista
“Made from supple, yet extremely strong dreamwood, the Vanari Starshard Ballistas are the premier artillery piece of the Lumineth Realm-lords. Firing a pair of long, perfectly balanced bolts in unison, the brilliant flash of light that accompanies their impact dazzles and disorients all those who the razor-sharp points don’t kill outright.
These accurate bolt-throwers are perfect for picking off key units, using their messenger hawks to enhance precision against enemies near to your heroes. Their long range makes them ideal for keeping well out of harm’s way, to better visit a storm of missiles upon your opponents.
The kit is comprised of 47 plastic components, with which you can assemble one Vanari Starshard Ballista plus crew, and is supplied with 1x Citadel 80mm Round Base.”
