Warhammer Quest: Cursed City – A First Look At New Missions And Mechanics
Games Workshop is showing off some of the new missions and mechanics for Warhammer: Quest – Cursed City. Get ready for new ways to face the terrors of Shyish.
Cursed City is coming very soon and it’s bringing some super spooky models. But it’s more than that – it’s an entirely new adventure in the box! Take your crew on a trip through Ulfenkarn and fight back against the plague of death within the Cursed City. Today, we get a look at some of the mechanics within the city and we also learn a bit about the types of missions you’ll undertake. Let’s get to it!
New Mechanics
“The city of Ulfenkarn is subject to two conditions – influence and fear. While you work to destroy each of Radukar’s lieutenants, and the Wolf King himself, you need to keep an eye on both of these factors. If the citizenry succumbs to fear, Ulfenkarn itself will be swallowed by the voracious Shyish Nadir. If Radukar’s influence in the city grows too strong, the Wolf King will destroy your airship, the Adamant, and put an end to your efforts.”
Tracking the Journey
The different types of missions you’ll take on are called “Journeys” and they are broken up in to different categories.
Hunt Journeys – kill as many minions as possible. This simple sounding journey is all about wracking up the undead body count in an effort to loosen the grip that Radukar has on the city.
Scavenger Journey – this is a treasure hunt plain an simple. You’ll still have to deal with the minions of Undeath, but ideally you’ll get out of the city with some rewards to show for it.
These items will help you upgrade your characters for the missions ahead. You’re going to need to be prepared if you want to be successful when you finally face down Radukar.
Deliverance Journey – This mission is more of a free-form exploration/run and gun mission. There is a Suffocating Gravetide that is roaming the city and you’ve got to save citizens from it AND get out alive yourself.
If you can manage to save eight people and get out ahead of the Suffocating Gravetide, you’ll lower the fear level in the city. This scenario deferrers from the others in that instead of using a fixed map configuration you’ll use an exploration deck.
Decapitation Journey – this is the final type of journey and, if you can’t tell from the name, it’s all about taking out the head honchos. These missions focus on taking out the key players within the Cursed City and you’ll work your way up the food chain by killing Radukar’s lieutenants.
There’s lots more to uncover and Games Workshop has a how to play video covering all the things you’ll need to know to take on the Cursed City!
