Warhammer Quest: Cursed City – Take A Look At Jelsen Darrock’s Rules Preview
Guess who’s back with a new preview for the Cursed City – It’s Jelsen Darrock, Vampire Hunter. And he’s packing a punch with his fancy firearm!
Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is slated to go up for Pre-order this weekend which means it won’t be long until you’ll be able to journey with your friends into Ulfenkarn. One of the brave heroes making the journey is Jelsen Darrock. We’ve already got a bit of background about this character and now Games Workshop is showcasing his rules card for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City. Let’s dive in.
“We’ve already met notorious vampire hunter Jelsen Darrock who, along with other heroes such as Octren Glimscry, Qulathis the Exile, and Brutogg Corpse-Eater, is seeking to save Ulfenkarn. Each of these brave warriors has their own card which tells you their key stats such as movement, defence, the attack values of their various weapons, and any special skills that they possess.”
Reading the card can take a little getting used to. according to GW, for Jelsen’s gun known as Judgement, you get to roll 2 D8s for an attack. On a success, you’ll cause 2 damage. On a crit, you’ll do a massive 4 damage! That’s already sounding pretty solid. We also get a bit more info about the card itself.
“Those four boxes at the top of the card are for Jensen’s activation dice. You roll these at the start of your turn, then spend them to move Jelsen around the streets of Ulfenkarn and kill the undead villains he comes across. At the bottom of the card are sections for armour and weapons, which can be empowered as your quest continues.”
Alright, it’s starting to make a bit more sense. But it would be a big help to see what a bad guy’s card looks like so we can gauge how he stacks up. Oh, look at that – GW is showing off the Ulfenwatch card:
The enemies in Ulfenkarn aren’t controlled by a player, their behavior is rolled for each turn. Looking at their table none of those actions looks like a bad move for them! Rolling low is probably better but that still could summon more or allow them to charge. That should keep players on their toes. We also get a look at their stats:
- Move – 3
- Wounds – 2
- Size – Small
Using these stats compared vs Jelsen’s stats, you can see how effective his weapons will be against these smaller minions. Most of his weapons will drop one of these skeletons in a single shot. His Firewood Stakes are supposed to be used as a finisher attack anyhow. It will be handy to use vs the Ulfenwatch Officer who gets an extra wound. Take a shot with Judgement, and if you get a success but not a crit, take another attack with one of the Stakes.
Taking out the banner bearer could also be a priority here. Those Ulfenwatch skeletons getting to re-roll their attacks could be a problem!
Well now that we’ve got a better idea of Jelsen’s skills and a look at one of the enemies, it’s time to play the waiting game. Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is coming very soon.
Grab your crew and get ready for adventure in the Cursed City!
