Modular, stylish, and varied, the Warhammer Quest: Cursed City tiles look great to play on.

Games played on a board tend have a tendency to slip into patterns. Sometimes it’s the game mechanics that encourage that. Sometimes it’s the layout of the board itself. Anytime the board is “static” (barring game mechanics outside the physical board) the games start to look and play the same.

That’s one of the reasons that there has been a push in recent years to make boards more modular. Being able to swap around these “tiles” makes the games and scenarios feel more unique and varied. This is something that Games Workshop has picked up on and the new Cursed City tiles have taken that to heart.

“As anyone who’s played Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress will know, these boards are used to create the environments your heroes nobly fight their way through. The tiles included with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City are the most distinct and characterful ones the Studio team have ever created.”

Each tile it unique and themed for whatever room or area it’s representing. Here, we have some coffins that have been exposed…along with a blood messy.

Here is an armory with stairs leading down further into the city. Also notice the details as well as the grid layout. If you’re looking for easy-to-read (visually) tiles for your other RPGs, this could be a great option.

Maybe you want to spruce it up with a garden in your “dungeon” set. Don’t mind the skulls…

There is even a place where your adventurers can sit and have a drink – don’t mind the blood. It’s probably dry at this point.

These tiles are going to be useful in your games and can lead to endless adventure. According to GW:

“Depending on your team’s reason for entering Ulfenkarn, the environments for your mission will be different. You could end up exploring anything from a derelict mansion to the notorious Square of Bones. Each map is made up of various tiles that are connected by gateways. “

The positioning on the gateways looks to be pretty varied, and open for players to create their own scenarios and layouts. Hey, get creative with these tiles – that’s part of the fun!

Not only are the models in this set looking top notch the tiles look great as well! We’re going to need to start a line for adventurers looking to enter the Cursed City when it finally comes out…

A modular tileset? My RPG senses are tingling.
