The Mask is Off in First Look at ‘Snake-Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins’
Snake Eye’s solo movie gives fans a look under his iconic mask.
The Rise of Cobra and Retaliation were campy romps that failed both critically and with audiences, but that isn’t stopping Hasbro and Paramount from making more. Snake-Eyes: GI Joe Origins explores the Joe’s top operative and favorite character’s backstory.
“Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing something he’s been longing for: a home. But when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honor and allegiance will be tested – even if it means losing the trust of those closest to him.”
The first poster and a bunch of character stills have arrived.
Snake-Eyes: GI Joe Origins is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos (The Huntsman: Winter’s War); with Robert Schwentke (Divergent franchise) in the director’s chair. It stars Samara Weaving, Henry Golding, Úrsula Corberó, Iko Uwais, and Andrew Koji. It’s due out in theaters on July 23rd and Paramount+ 45 days later.
Paramount is working with Hasbro on several other projects centered around the toy company’s product lines. In the next couple of years, we’ll see Micronauts (based on the ’70s Mego/Takara spaceman line that included robots and future men), the Dungeons & Dragons movie (set for 2023), plus more Power Rangers and Transformers projects on the big screen. The franchise film wars will continue ad infinitum.
