Warhammer 40K: The Unbeatable List – Alamo 40k GT Edition!
Goatboy here, just back from my the Alamo GT in San Antonio TX, with the list that went all the way. Take a look at who’s rising in the 40K Meta!
The calm before the Adeptus Mechanicus storm comes in and complicates the tabletop. I will have a quick bit of thoughts on that new book (holy crap is it hard) but let’s go over the top lists from The Alamo GT, with had over 100 players duking it out. First of all congrats to Sean Nayden in his quest to win the TCC belt by crushing as many Texas events as he can. I love the idea of him coming into events like some kind of Macho Man ready to bring the pain with his Aeldari nonsense. Big congrats to him. Why the List Works
Sean is a master of making those Space Elves good and his list is designed to hurt Dark Eldar and Marines – which happen to be a lot of armies out there. Interestingly enough he got paired up with a Daemon Player at the end playing a ton of Daemonettes – saves would matter in that one as while Sean can throw out a lot of shots – better shooting doesn’t matter to Daemons. Sean pulled it out with his list that others would have trouble to get to work. It shoots, it punches, and it’s fast – all the things that make these Spikey Space Elves so good in 9th edition. He can play so many different mission choices. We’ll see if the new book missions shift things a bit.
2nd Place – Jony Velazquez’s Death Guard
Second place went to another undefeated with a Death Guard army – Jony Velazquez pulled it out in the end and was able to jump the other undefeated player. Here is his list as it looks like a normal new version of Death Guard using some FW goodness, Death Shroud Terminators, and decent troops to hold things down.

Why the List Works
A pretty simple list utilizing Ferric Blight and fast options to spread it out faster. This way you can start to really amp up the AP of weapons that get thrown at enemies. The Volkites shoot out 16 shots that can throw out mortal wounds pretty easily. Mine didn’t do to well on my games but congrats to a Death Guard player getting there with a list full of boots on the ground.
3rd Place – Matt Allee’s Drukhari
Finally we have Matt Allee with his tidal wave of Wyches. They are good, fast, and throw out so many attacks it gets a bit nutty. He has wanted to play a ton of them and this army does that – like waves of amazing Daemonettes who have so many better abilities. These types of simple lists just get there and get to throwing the punches.
Cursed Blade Patrol

Why the List Works
Matt is a local buddy and lord did his list look weird in BCP. This is the basic write out and as you can see it is a ton of Wyches with the best close combat characters in the game running around. It is pretty simple to see how it just gets there, sweeps you up, and murders your business. Like that is all it does – gets there and starts chopping away at you.
That is it for now – Alamo was a 5 round event so while it didn’t give us a true all-won champion it did give us a nice weekend of playing games, seeing friends, and just having a good time playing 40k again. My score was bad – but the list wasn’t tested so I should have gone with something I knew more. Or my initial Rhino rush build that would let me play missions. Remembering to have a list able to score points is an important thing and something I obviously should have cared more about.
Until next time – roll dem 6’s.
